FINISHING SHOTS By Tom Gray
MOORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW: On August 11, 1954, legendary light heavyweight king Archie Moore defended his crown against skilled and durable contender Harold Johnson. The pair had met four times before, with Moore up 3-1 up in the rivalry in bouts that were all won by 10-round unanimous decision. In their final encounter, Moore got off the canvas to prevail via TKO 14, with the decisive session later named The Ring’s Round of the Year. Johnson eventually won the light heavyweight championship in 1962, defeating the capable Doug Jones for the vacant title.
