WILL YOU JOIN ME FOR A BULLS GAME?

IRS Protection Plan Members Have A Chance To Win!

This holiday season, I’ve decided to celebrate by giving back to the people who keep my firm running: you! As you might have heard, my office recently instituted a new program we’re calling the IRS Protection Plan. It’s an effort to keep our clients in compliance with their IRS obligations, prevent future issues, and solve their problems not just for the moment, but permanently. Basically, people who sign up for the plan can rest assured that our power of attorney will always be active with the IRS so we can monitor their case, be there to reinstate an IRS agreement if default occurs, and prepare their yearly tax returns. My team and I will also be available for unlimited telephone consultations about specific cases, tax affairs, and other legal matters. In short, it’s a comprehensive plan designed to shift the weight of worry from your shoulders to ours where we can take action to make it go away. In the few short months we’ve offered the program, we’ve already seen dozens of our clients sign up as members —which is where giving back comes in. As a thank-you to everyone who has enrolled, I’ve decided to offer our IRS Protection Plan members the chance to win tickets to the upcoming Chicago Bulls game on Friday, Nov. 16, when they play the Brooklyn Nets at the United Center! Not only that, but the tickets are for the center court suite, which any Bulls fan knows is the best spot in the house to see the action.

“The tickets are for the center court suite, which any Bulls fan knows is the best spot in the house to see the action.”

I’m giving away five tickets, and the winners will join me, my fellow attorneys, my nephew and IRS Radio Hour Co-host Jim Leahy, and a handful of our Trust Radio Network Trusted Professionals in the suite for a bit of networking before tipoff. I’m a big basketball fan myself, and I can’t wait to share the Center Court Suite experience with my favorite people.

but haven’t signed up for the IRS Protection Plan yet, don’t worry — there’s still time to sign up and enter to win, but the sooner you act the better! You can reach us by calling 312-664-6649 or visiting ChicagoTaxTeam.com today. I hope to see you at the game!

THE POLITICS AND PINTS AT THE TAP HOUSE GRILL

Recently, I was invited to attend the Politics and Pints event hosted by WLS 890 AM featuring Chris Plante. The event was held at the Tap House Grill in Des Plaines. What a turnout! There had to be more than 300 people there. I had a chance to meet Chris Plante and learned he is a local —he grew up in the northern suburb of Wilmette. The show is explained even more on the WLS-AM 890’s website: “Chris is a recovering member of the Washington media, having spent 17 years at CNN covering Breaking News and Pentagon and National Security issues. He knows who is who—and, better yet, who to believe. His knowledge and experience — in and out of the DC circles —will help provide the right perspective of what’s going on. "Listen to The Chris Plante Show, 9–11 a.m. CT weekdays. THEN, stay tuned for Rush Limbaugh, once again, heard LIVE, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT weekdays on WLS-AM 890." If you haven’t heard his show, you should tune in to check it out! I enjoyed a couple of pints and the politics. Thanks Chuck Barham ANDWLS!

Is This Really the IRS? How to Separate Scam Calls From the Real Thing

Have you ever answered the phone and found someone claiming to be from the IRS on the other end of the line? Maybe they had a thick accent, told you they were sending the cops to your door, or demanded you pay your back taxes in $20 Target gift cards. Whatever they said, hopefully you realized the call was a scam — but, if you didn’t, you’re not alone. Between 2013 and 2015, more than 4,500 people fell for scam calls, paying a total of more than $23 million dollars to imposters. Since then, these calls have only increased in number. This May, the problem even reached the U.S. Senate, which passed a bill cracking down on robocalls. Going forward, here are a few things the IRS wants you to know in order to make you sure don’t end up accidentally sending your hard-earned money to criminals.

where the IRS does call or stop by a home or business in person, it will generally mail out several notices first as warnings.

2. THE IRS WILL ONLY ASK FOR ONE KIND OF PAYMENT

If an “IRS representative” asks you for gift cards or to mail them a prepaid debit card, that’s a big clue they’re not the real deal. The IRS will always request payments are made directly to the U.S. Treasury, never a private agency. A full list of authentic payment methods is available at IRS.gov/Payments.

3. THE IRS WILL NEVER THREATEN OR INTIMIDATE

Unlike scammers trying to scare you into paying up, real IRS agents will never threaten to arrest or deport you for unpaid taxes over the phone. If you get a call like this and fear you’re the victim of a scam, hang up and contact the IRS yourself through the contact methods listed on its website, IRS.gov.

1. THE IRS WILL ALMOST NEVER CALL YOU

It’s extremely rare for the IRS to make phone calls or house visits: almost all of its business is conducted by snail mail through the U.S. Postal Service. Even in cases

The Gift of Giving

Celebrating Giving Tuesday

November is usually all about Thanksgiving, but it isn’t the only holiday that encourages generosity. Giving Tuesday is a phenomenal celebration in which millions of people from across the globe are inspired to spend 24 hours giving back to the communities they love.

is “to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet.”

TECHNOLOGY AT ITS BEST

Through the use of social media and technology, the organization hopes to encourage and spread generosity on a global scale using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. The website states that “... technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral; that people fundamentally want to give and talk about giving.”Through massive social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, the individuals and companies participating in Giving Tuesday can spread their missions and messages all over the world, encouraging others to do the same. Now is the perfect opportunity to support your community and the causes you believe in. The best part of this holiday is that “giving” doesn’t just refer to donating money. People can give back by volunteering their time to help a nonprofit business, donating goods and food, or just buying a stranger some lunch. Even the smallest actions can have the biggest impact. If you’re interested in participating in Giving Tuesday, get together with your friends, family, sports team members, or neighbors to brainstorm on how you can give back. To learn more about how you can participate, visit GivingTuesday.org . HOWYOU CAN CELEBRATE

ORIGIN AND GOAL

Giving Tuesday is celebrated every year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, and this year, the holiday lands on Dec. 3! It was

established in 2012 by the United Nations Foundation and New York’s 92nd Street Y as a response to consumer- driven holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The purpose of the holiday was to spread the spirit of giving, not only for the people

in our nation but individuals across the world. The goal
