A careful comparison of all the instance? in which the marvels of Exodus are cited would, reveal an astonishing body of ad­ monitions and encouragements. But it is especially interesting to note the New Tes­ tament Standards of Power: Ephesians 1:19-23, “According to the working of His mighty Power, which He wrought in Christ,” etc. Here may be traced quite as many mar­ vels, singularly correspondent, but on a grander scale : 1. The passing over the blood-sprinkled believer. 2. Opening a path of life through death and the grave. 3. Destroying the power of the believer’s foes. 4. Bestowing the Holy Spirit for guid­ ance. 5. Providing for every daily need of His pilgrims. 6. Indwelling in the Church and in the believer. 7. Bearing with all the faults and follies of this people. 8. Unchangeable fidelity to thé covenant of grac t.—The Making of a Sermon, A. T. P. ished ; a wearied audience rapidly dimin­ ishes. Don’t throw yourself about, this distracts the hearers. Muscular movements do not always denote earnestness. Don’t exaggerate; God’s Word is com­ plete. Don’t speculate; God has revealed suffi­ cient. Don’t shout; this grates on people’s ears; distinctness is preferable to volume. Don’t imitate others. Our beauty, if we have any, lies in our individuality.

GOD’S STANDARD OF POWER. "According to the days of thine Exodus out of the Land of Egypt, will I show unto him {new) marvels.”—M az M i 7 :I5, , £ The miracles of the Exodus are the Old Testament standard of Jehovah’s power, to deliver His people. This standard is re­ ferred to' probably not less than 300 times in the Old Testament. (Comp. Micah 6:4, etc.) That remarkable deliverance included many marvels. 1. A marvel of Grace—in passing over the blood-stained houses. 2. A marvel of Power—-in making a path through the Red Sea. 3. A marvel of Judgment—in over­ whelming the pursuing Egyptians. 4. A marvel of Guidance—in supplying the pillar of fire and cloud for leadership. 5. A marvel of Goodness—in providing bread in the Wilderness, etc. 6'. A marvel of Condescension in pitch­ ing His Tabernacle among them. 7. A marvel of Patience—in enduring for so long their murmurings and rebellion. 8. „ A marvel of Faithfulness—in being mindful of His covenant. From the eighteenth to the twentieth verses some of these marvels are obviously referred to : The passing over the blood, 18. OPEN-AIR SPEAKING. Don’t use hackneyed phrases, meaningless terms, exaggerated expressions, or appeals to sentiment only. Don’t try to be eloquent, clever, comical, or entertaining. We are not all Spurgeons, we are only messengers—“A voice.” Don’t provoke unnecessarily; e. g., in a ritualistic neighborhood preach the truth.
