The things Solomon asked for were the highest things, v. 11. For this reason God gave to Solomon an understanding heart, v. 12. He also, gave him riches and honor, v. 13. He also promised him conditionally long life, v. 14. When Solomon a\toke he went to Jeru­ salem and made an offering to the Lord, v. 15. Questions •' Does true prayer please the Lord? Prov. 15:8. Was it the unselfishness of Solomon’s prayer that pleased the Lord ? Jer. 25:5; Matt. 20:21, 22. What did God give Solomon? 4:29-34; 1 Chron. 29:25.. Why was not God’s promise of long life to Solomon fulfilled? ch. 11:4, 9, 12. PRACTICAL POINTS. (1) Is not the attitude of our Father, “Ask what I shall give thee?” (2) Wisdom is the principal thing. (3) Can you look God in the face and avow your choice? (4) It is God’s will for us that we should want wisdom. (5) He is a wise man that knows the worth of wisdom. (6) “Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (7) Seek first the glory of God, and the windows of heaven will be open. (8) Covet earnestly the best gifts. (9.) God gave Solomon the wisdom he asked for, and the wealth he asked not for.

(1) Solomon’s Regal Sacrifice, vs. 4. The king went to Gibeah to make sacri­ fice, v. 4. . The tabernacle and brazen altar were there, v. 4. There he offered a thousand burnt offer­ ings, v. 4.
