Happy New Year, Hyde Park and Oakridge! As we turn the page to 2026, I want to offer my sincere thanks for all you contributed to our city last year. From festive events to local improvement ini- tiatives, your neighbourhoods set the standard for community energy and involvement in London.
Winter has made a bold entrance this year with snow arriving early and temperatures dipping lower than usual for January. I know it’s been felt along our busy corridors and throughout residential streets. Our City crews are working hard to stay ahead of the weather, keeping major routes safe and responding quickly to neighbourhood needs. This time of year also brings heightened focus on supporting our most vulnerable residents. London’s warming centres, outreach teams and shelter partners are operating extended winter programs to ensure no one is left out in the cold. Happy New Year, London! In 2026, London will officially mark 200 years since its founding in 1826 (confirmed through the London & Middlesex Historical Society).

London has long been referred to as “The Forest City” and we officially have the title to prove it! Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Parks and Forestry teams, London has received the Forest Capital of Canada Designation from the Canadian Institute of Forestry for 2026 – 2027! We were selected in recognition of our exceptional forest heritage, leadership in sustainable urban forestry, and deep-rooted com- munity commitment to environmental stewardship. London also has a long-standing and evolving relationship with our forested landscapes, from Indigenous land stewardship along the Deshkan Ziibi (Thames River) to the preservation and management of over 290 municipally-owned woodlands today.
