From FOMO to Go-Go: Your Guide to Stress-Free Last-Minute Travel by Chrystal Harris, Certified Travel Professional with Playcation Travel It’s happened to us all. You go into work on Monday morning and have to listen to your co-worker cheerfully talk about their upcoming trip to an amazing resort for the upcoming long weekend….. some place where you’re not! You are in despite need of a break and think, there is no way I can pull off a last-minute trip. Wrong, my friend! There is no need to settle for another long weekend in your pyjamas watching Schitt’s Creek for the millionth time and wishing that you had booked that flight. While planning ahead, ideally at least two weeks or more is best in terms of both cost and availability, it is still quite possible to organize a reasonably priced vacation with less than a week’s notice. That’s where I come in. I am here to research, scour the sites and do the planning for you in order to get you on your merry way to the vacation you so badly need. Did you know that using a service like a Travel Advisor costs you nothing? That’s right… zero... zilch… nada. Who doesn’t like the sound of that? All you have to do is tell me when and where, and I’ll take care of the rest. It’s true that booking last-minute can most likely save you money. If you are travelling solo or with a partner, flying standby, for instance, can save you some cash on flights. However, it is extremely risky and I typically only recommend it if you have an open-ended place to stay, such as with family or a friend, since you won’t know at what time you will be flying out.
Cabins on cruise ships really do sometimes sell for far less closer to departure, but waiting until the last minute to get a deal may end up costing you a little more on a flight if you are not close to a port. The real advantage there is for people who live close to ports. In Canada, there are many departure ports such as Vancouver, Halifax, Montreal and Quebec City. There are some smaller ports that smaller ships leave from if that is your vibe.
