INNER ELDER
Upon his passing, Jason and his fellow committee members recognized their passion to continue this community event in memory of Phil and his impactful legacy. With Phil’s family in attendance for their 2025 debut, Jason and Leah reflect, “People were excited this event was back. We surpassed our goal, raising nearly $6,000.” This was a bonding experience and a learning curve for the team, who detail the appreciated support of 25 volunteers and the approximated 300 guests in attendance. Jason and Leah voice, “The response was phenomenal, and this event has been well-supported.” Jason expresses, “I think that everyone has been touched by heart and stroke in one way or another. Battle of the Bowls is about raising awareness, and gathering the community together.” With Lea having Heart and Stroke work experience and Debbie being a heart transplant survivor, this event is near and dear to the hearts of those proudly on this committee. Jerome Thomas, an upbeat musician playing the classics, will be returning this year with his highly anticipated live entertainment. This event will further entail their charismatic Emcee, first responder participants, their silent auction and raffle, and the esteemed fundraiser feature – delectable soup samples prepared by local chefs. Planning to feature five soup options, the committee reveals that five chili dishes will also be incorporated this year. There will be a judges panel, prizes and more. In particular, the evaluated categories include Best Presentation, Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice. As Jason works in stained glass, he decided to create and sell symbolic pieces throughout the event. Evolving the design this year, each ornament costs $10.00 -- with half being directly funnelled into the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Jason delightedly announces that they sold nearly 100 last year. Sponsored by Mortgage with Brad, Battle of the Bowls is scheduled for this February 5th at the St. Anne’s Community Centre from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm. Entry costs $8.00 in advance, or $10.00 at the door. Ticket purchase and placed donations are accepted through the heartandstroke. crowdchange.ca/126898 website. Moreover, Heart and Stroke awareness reading material is available for readers to peruse. The Soup’s On committee is grateful for the gracious contribu- tions from the community; whether toward their auction, donating funds, or offering your own time. Mayor Joe Preston and Doug Tarry Homes have been actively supportive of this continued event. Furthermore, Jason and Leah enthuse, “Our volunteers are the cornerstone.” Visit ‘Soup’s On Battle of the Bowls 2026 for Heart & Stroke’ on Facebook, and email soupsonhs@gmail.com with inquiries about this upcoming Battle of the Bowls.
