What a wonderful start to the year we’ve had! Our Christmas and New Year lunches were truly something special, filled with festive flavours, joyful music, and plenty of laughter around the tables. We’ve also enjoyed celebrating Australia Day and Chinese New Year, with residents joining in themed activities, decorations and cultural treats.

There’s plenty more to look forward to. March brings the cheer of St Patrick’s Day, followed by the vibrant celebrations of Eid, and of course the much loved traditions of Easter. Activity schedules will be shared soon. Sports fans are also buzzing as the 2026 AFL season kicks off. Whether you barrack for the Tigers, Cats, Swans or anyone in between, it’s always lively seeing everyone come together to support their teams. And in true AFL tradition, there’s one thing most supporters can agree on: no matter who you follow, there’s always a bit of extra joy when the Pies lose a game! And as the seasons shift, here’s a gentle smile for the month ahead: the weather has been changing so often lately that even the trees seem unsure whether to hold on to their leaves or start dressing for autumn! Regards Joe

Message from Lifestyle Janine The past few months have been filled with wonderful activities, celebrations, and special moments here at Cumberland View. In December, the festive season brought plenty of Christmas cheer. Residents enjoyed Christmas movie afternoons, writing and sending Christmas cards to

loved ones, and decorating our Christmas trees together. We were delighted to have the residents from the Retirement Village perform their Christmas Revue Show, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. A highlight of the season was our Christmas Lights Bus Tour, where residents sang carols while admiring the beautiful neighbourhood lights. We finished the year with our Cumberland View Christmas Party, where residents and families enjoyed a delicious festive spread prepared by our kitchen team and wonderful entertainment from The Golden Girls. We welcomed the New Year in January with a relaxing Scenic Bus Drive, along with our regular Friday Happy Hour and entertainment sessions. During the month we also acknowledged La Befana and Orthodox Christmas, celebrated Elvis Presley’s birthday with a sing-along, and marked Australia Day with a special Aussie Afternoon Tea and entertainment featuring Laura performing some great Australian classics. In February, residents enjoyed another Scenic Bus Drive and a special activity called “Hear My Wedding Story”, where residents and some family members shared memories and photos from their wedding days. Valentine’s Day was celebrated with entertainment by John D, followed by an Afternoon Tea and the romantic movie Sleepless in Seattle. We also celebrated Chinese New Year with the colourful MCPA Chinese Dancers, and enjoyed more wonderful entertainment including Lorenzo in Concert, relaxing harp music with Susan Graham, a visit from Milo our Pet Therapy dog, and a lively Jazz Happy Hour with Ray Quon. Looking ahead to March, April and May, we are excited for the 2026 AFL season and our popular Cumberland View Footy Tipping Competition. Residents can also look forward to a Vera Lynn Tribute Show, the return of our High Tea, and St Patrick’s Day celebrations where everything will be turning green. With Easter approaching, we are excited to welcome back the Henny Penny Hatchlings, where residents can watch baby chicks hatch and help care for them. And of course… there will be plenty of Easter chocolate to enjoy! We are also looking forward to our first ever Puppet Show with Stephen from Puppets Alive, which promises to be lots of fun for everyone. It has been a wonderful start to the year and we look forward to many more enjoyable moments together with our residents, families and community. Janine Linnert Lifestyle Cooordinator

Christmas Kicks Off in Style What a way to welcome the festive season! We were treated to a wonderful performance by the Cumberland Village Review Christmas Show, Lorenzo came and sang his heart out to smiles all round, and our beloved Milo dropped in for cuddles while we got busy decking the halls. The home was filling up with tinsel, cheer, and that unmistakable feeling that something special was just around the corner.

Out and About for Christmas We made the most of every bit of the season this year. A magical evening out taking in the Christmas lights really did fill our hearts right up, and our coffee outing with a surprise visit from the Grinch at Mulgrave Country Club gave us plenty of laughs. On the hotter days we stayed cool with icy poles and good company, which honestly is not a bad way to spend a summer afternoon at all. The Golden Girls Steal the Show Our Resident and Family Christmas Party was everything. The Golden Girls were an absolute sensation, the kitchen team put on a feast that had everyone going back for more, and the afternoon turned into one long joyful sing-along with dancing, clapping, and the kind of laughter that fills a room right up. Having so many of our loved ones there with us made it all the more special. One of those days you simply do not forget.

Ringing in 2026 We saw out the old year and welcomed the new one together with Taylah Trew keeping us on our feet all night. The singing, the celebrating, and the warmth in the room said it all. Here is to everything 2026 has in store for us! Keeping Our Cool When the January heat rolled in we were ready for it. Icy poles, milkshakes, cold drinks, and good company made sure nobody suffered too much! Games, conversations, and relaxing music filled our days and there was a lovely easy summer feel to everything. Sometimes the simple things really are the best.

Something for Everyone We were spoilt for choice all summer with so much on offer every single week. Chair Tai Chi with Chris, carpet bowls, sing-alongs with Laurel McKenna, book club, craft group, cooking, coffee bus trips, and a gorgeous scenic trip to the beach that had us all feeling wonderfully refreshed. Whatever you were in the mood for, there was always something wonderful waiting.

Community Happenings Summer

Max the Magician We still have not quite figured out how he did it. Max the Magician had us completely baffled and thoroughly entertained, and when we pressed him for answers he simply told us he did it “very well.” Fair enough, Max. Fair enough. One of the funniest and most memorable afternoons of the whole summer.

Music All Summer Long Jack the Music Man, Steph Renouf, Laurel McKenna, Laura, Ben, Barouch our wonderful wandering minstrel, Eliza, Jose on drums, Margaret Dennis, Lorenzo, and John D have all brought something truly special to our home these past few months. Barouch has a particular gift for wandering the halls and leaving a trail of smiles wherever he goes. We are very lucky people.

A Valentine’s Day to Remember Champagne, roses, wedding memories, and Sleepless in Seattle. That pretty much sums up our Valentine’s Day and it was just gorgeous. We sat together sharing our favourite love stories over beautiful cakes from the kitchen and music from John D who handed out roses to all of us, and then settled in for the film with a glass in hand. Romantic, warm, and exactly what the day called for.

Celebrating the World Around Us We welcomed the Lunar New Year with stunning dances, vibrant decorations, and beautiful craft activities, and raised a toast to Latvia’s Independence Day with special treats. Every celebration is another reason to come together, and we never need much convincing to do exactly that.

Message from Clinical Care

Over the past quarter, our clinical team has continued to prioritise resident safety, wellbeing, and quality care through consistent monitoring, review, and improvement of key clinical indicators. Falls, pressure injuries, wound care, medication safety, and infection control have remained core areas of focus. Our data shows patterns typical for the season, including minor fluctuations in fall numbers, stable low prevalence of pressure injuries, and steady wound healing progress across the home, with most wounds demonstrating improvement or complete resolution. Infection numbers have decreased in recent months, supported by timely assessment, antimicrobial stewardship, and preventative strategies. Medication management also continues to improve, with reduced incident numbers and strengthened adherence to safe administration processes. As we transition into Autumn, our clinical focus turns to proactive seasonal care. Cooler weather often brings increased risks such as skin dryness, reduced mobility, and changes in appetite, so our teams will be placing additional emphasis on hydration support, skin integrity monitoring, and early identification of respiratory illnesses. We will continue strengthening falls prevention strategies across all units, ensuring regular safety checks, clear pathways, and tailored mobility support for residents who need it. Influenza vaccination readiness remains a priority, with high uptake anticipated again this year as part of our seasonal wellness planning. We appreciate the teamwork across our nursing, lifestyle, and Physio, who all work together every day to support safe, person centred clinical care. As always, we remain committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every resident experiences comfort, dignity, and quality outcomes throughout the Autumn months ahead. Meet the Team

Why do you like working here? I am a people person and enjoy looking after others and care for their ·needs. I love being part of a team and am very fortunate to have friendly and caring people that I work with. I’ve been at Cumberlandview since July 2022. What do you do in your spare time? I love the outdoors so spend most of my time outside. I love hunting, hiking, mountain biking and camping. To keep fit is important to me so I like to go the gym. I also love watching footy and barrack for the Bombers. If you could travel the world, where would you go and why? South-Africa. All my family are in South-Africa, so every opportunity I get I want to spend with them. Apart from visiting family, South-Africa is truly a beautiful place to visit. One of the best experiences is to go on a wildlife safari and spend time in the bush with the animals.

Chef’s Corner I would like to take a moment to say thank you for the wonderful support and feedback you continue to give to the kitchen team. It truly means a lot to us and helps guide what we create each day. Sumith

Sausage Rolls 1kg pork mince 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 large brown onion, grated 1 large carrot, grated 1 ½ tablespoons dried Italian herb mix 1 cup panko breadcrumbs 3 eggs 3 sheets frozen ready-rolled puff pastry,

partially thawed (see tip) 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

1. Preheat oven to 200°C fan-forced. Grease 2 large baking trays lined with baking paper.

2. Combine oil and onion in a microwave-safe bowl. Cover with a sheet of damp paper towel. Microwave for 2 minutes on High/100%. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes. 3. Combine pork mince, carrot, dried herbs, breadcrumbs, 2 eggs and cooled onion mixture in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Using clean hands, mix thoroughly until well combined. Divide pork mixture into 6 equal portions. 4. Whisk the remaining egg with a fork. Lay pastry sheets onto a work surface and cut each in half. 5. Using one portion of pork mixture, spread into a long sausage shape along the long edge of one halved pastry sheet. Brush the opposite long edge with beaten egg. Roll up pastry to enclose the pork mixture, pressing the edges together to seal. Repeat using remaining pork and pastry. 6. Brush sausage rolls with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cut each into 6. Place sausage rolls, seam-side down with a little space between each one, onto the prepared trays. 7. Bake for 38-40 minutes, swapping the trays in the oven after 25 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Serve with tomato sauce. It’s easier to work with pastry when its partially thawed, just make sure it’s completely thawed before you start cooking. The sausage rolls freeze well, cooked or uncooked in airtight containers or bags, for up to 3 months.

Meet the Resident Let’s celebrate John, Cumberland View Aged Care’s longest residing resident. This month we gathered to honour John, who recently celebrated 12 warm, wonderful years calling Cumberland View Aged Care home. The celebration was full of smiles and Joe, our manager and Janine, our lifestyle co-ordinator presented John with a certificate and a gift to mark the milestone. Residents filled the room with applause and cheer. A delicious cake was shared as everyone joined in congratulating him. John shared he was so surprised and pleased but it just doesn’t feel like 12 years. One of John’s favourite daily pleasures is a cuppa and the view from his apartment. His windows look out through leafy trees

onto plush green grass, and every spring he delights in the arrival of ducklings. He loves watching them grow, waddling up and tapping on his window. John feels like he has a front-row seat to nature. John loves the personal touches that make life here feel like home. There is always someone to chat to, lifestyle staff popping in and leaving crosswords for him to solve, and all the caring staff who support him daily. You’ll spot John with the morning walking group, catching up at the men’s group, and tapping his foot along to the great music at happy hour entertainment. He enjoys going out on the coffee bus outings and loves sharing meals with other residents in the beautiful dining room. John is active beyond Cumberland View too. He enjoys walks in the wider community, exploring familiar streets. He attends a weekly church group that nourishes his spirit and gives him the chance to connect with his friends. Ever reflective, John is currently writing his memoirs. He feels blessed by an exceptional life traveling the world as a child, then again through adventures tied to his career. His stories full of places visited, people met, and lessons learned are being carefully recorded so family and friends can enjoy them for years to come. Giving back is important to John, and he does it in quiet, generous ways. As a member of the new resident welcoming committee, he helps new residents feel at home, offering tips, and friendly conversation. After 12 years living here, he knows the community inside and out. If you need directions or a recommendation, John is your man. Please join us in congratulating John on 12 remarkable years and in wishing him many more Springs of ducklings at the window, lively walks, friendly chats, and new pages added to his memoirs.

Influenza Vaccines Influenza (flu) is a common viral illness that affects people of all ages. While symptoms may be mild for some, influenza can cause serious illness and may lead to hospitalisation—even in otherwise healthy people.

The safest and most effective way to protect yourself and others is to receive an influenza vaccination each year from a health professional. The flu virus changes regularly, so the vaccine is updated annually, which is why yearly vaccination is important. The type of vaccine recommended depends on your age and health needs, and your GP can advise which option is right for you. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged six months and over. Receiving a vaccination not only helps protect you—it also helps protect your family, friends, and the wider community. For more information on vaccinations, please see a friendly member of the care team. Do you know about PainChek? Within our homes, we use the PainChek system, a clinically validated digital pain assessment tool. Using AI technology to support a modern pain assessment framework PainChek will identify the presence of pain even when it’s not obvious. PainChek is fast and easy to use. Using a smart device, the device’s camera looks at the person’s face then analyses the images using AI driven facial recognition. PainChek analyses facial expressions and facial muscle movements in real time and combines this information with observations of behaviour, body movements, and vocalisations to generate an objective pain score. This information calculates an overall pain score and stores the result. This outcome forms the evidence base supporting the implementation of pain management interventions, and for the ongoing monitoring of their effectiveness over time. This approach supports the early identification of pain, more consistent assessments, and improved pain management. By enabling accurate and timely pain recognition, PainChek helps care teams deliver safer, more consistent, and person‑centred care. All assessments are stored securely, allowing for trend monitoring and shared clinical insights to support ongoing care planning. Kind regards, Lee State Quality Manager

We were treated to a performance by the Cumberland Village Review Christmas Show, Lorenzo came to sing for us, and our furry friend Milo popped in for cuddles while we started decking the halls with tinsel and cheer. As the month rolled on we headed out on a Christmas lights bus trip that really filled our hearts with the spirit of the season, visited the Grinch at Mulgrave Country Club on a coffee bus trip, and cooled down on the hot days with icy poles. We sang and danced with the ever popular Jack the Music Man, got creative and a little messy during cooking in Carter, and enjoyed a beautiful Christmas Concert with the talented Steph Renouf on keyboard. The highlight of it all was our Resident and Family Christmas Party, where the fabulous Golden Girls entertained us, the kitchen team put on a gorgeous spread, and the afternoon was filled with singing, clapping, and dancing. What a season it was!
