Cumberland View Aged Care Summer 2025 - 2026 Newsletter

Meet the Resident Let’s celebrate John, Cumberland View Aged Care’s longest residing resident. This month we gathered to honour John, who recently celebrated 12 warm, wonderful years calling Cumberland View Aged Care home. The celebration was full of smiles and Joe, our manager and Janine, our lifestyle co-ordinator presented John with a certificate and a gift to mark the milestone. Residents filled the room with applause and cheer. A delicious cake was shared as everyone joined in congratulating him. John shared he was so surprised and pleased but it just doesn’t feel like 12 years. One of John’s favourite daily pleasures is a cuppa and the view from his apartment. His windows look out through leafy trees

onto plush green grass, and every spring he delights in the arrival of ducklings. He loves watching them grow, waddling up and tapping on his window. John feels like he has a front-row seat to nature. John loves the personal touches that make life here feel like home. There is always someone to chat to, lifestyle staff popping in and leaving crosswords for him to solve, and all the caring staff who support him daily. You’ll spot John with the morning walking group, catching up at the men’s group, and tapping his foot along to the great music at happy hour entertainment. He enjoys going out on the coffee bus outings and loves sharing meals with other residents in the beautiful dining room. John is active beyond Cumberland View too. He enjoys walks in the wider community, exploring familiar streets. He attends a weekly church group that nourishes his spirit and gives him the chance to connect with his friends. Ever reflective, John is currently writing his memoirs. He feels blessed by an exceptional life traveling the world as a child, then again through adventures tied to his career. His stories full of places visited, people met, and lessons learned are being carefully recorded so family and friends can enjoy them for years to come. Giving back is important to John, and he does it in quiet, generous ways. As a member of the new resident welcoming committee, he helps new residents feel at home, offering tips, and friendly conversation. After 12 years living here, he knows the community inside and out. If you need directions or a recommendation, John is your man. Please join us in congratulating John on 12 remarkable years and in wishing him many more Springs of ducklings at the window, lively walks, friendly chats, and new pages added to his memoirs.
