Executive Leadership Training Retreat Kappa National Leadership, Province Leadership National Silhouettes and Admin Support Teams Convene in Orlando

E arlier this year, the leadership of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., gathered in Orlando, FL, for the 2023 Executive Leader- ship Training Retreat (ELT). Held at the Rosen Shingle Creek, the Council of Grand Polemarchs, Council of Province Polemarchs, Council of Senior Province Vice Polemarchs, Grand Board Mem- bers, undergraduate leaders, various strategic committee leaders, IHQ staff, and the National Silhouettes gathered for intensive leadership training and development. Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Jimmy McMikle facilitated the weekend. Brother McMikle reminded the par- ticipants, "We are an organization that operates under the banner, 'Training for Leadership.' That can’t just be a state- ment that we claim. It’s a motto that we must live by. Effective leadership of any organization starts at the top. We have to set the standard of expectation and operational excellence at the highest levels of fraternal leadership if we expect the rest of our fraternity to lead accord- ingly." "That’s why we’ll continue to leverage the executive retreat as a regular tool to sharpen the senior leadership and move the fraternity forward," McMikle continued. The Senior Grand Vice Polemarch was joined by several other speakers and facilitators over the February 24-25, 2023, weekend. The ELT retreat bril- liantly used subject matter experts in emotional intelligence (EQ), experiential learning, group dynamics, hermeneutics, and homiletics while engaging in group training and breakout sessions for each cohort. Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton III, Esq., provided the charge to the

attendees, followed by Dr. Desmon Daniel who leads Kappa’s Strategic Planning Implementation Team – Train- ing for Leadership Subcommittee. South Central Senior Province Vice Polemarch Donald L. Woolridge, Sr., led a compel- ling workshop on servant leadership. Brother Rev. Arthur Jackson III, Pas- tor of Antioch Baptist Church, Miami, FL powerfully led the group meeting during lunch. This was followed by “Leadership Lessons from a Grand Polemarch’s Perspective. 30 th Grand Polemarch Samuel C. Hamilton, 31 st Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray, Esq., 32 nd Grand Polemarch William “Randy” Bates, Jr., Esq., 33 rd Grand Polemarch Thomas L. Battles, Jr., and Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton III, Esq., all participated. Thereafter, the individual cohorts retreated to their various sessions before coming together for respective debriefs. Other speakers included Grand Board Member Robert L. Kyles, Director of Organiza- tional Effectiveness for the 34 th Admin- istration, Northeast- ern Prov- ince Senior Province Vice Polemarch Ted Sanchi- ous, Brand Manage- ment Team Lead

Meeting Planner Kevin “KJ” Johnson and National Silhouette President The- resa Foster. When discussing his passion for leadership, the Senior Grand Vice Polemarch remarked, "Leadership is my life. I own a leadership training and development consulting firm. There are three simple, yet powerful words, that define my personal and company mission and direct my passion to equip people for success through customized training solutions. Those three words are: educate, inspire, and empower. My company helps individuals, businesses and organizations unleash their unlim- ited power and potential to thrive in sustained fashion. I literally travel the country to teach, speak and train on the topic of leadership." The Senior Grand Vice Poleamarch's words were taken to heart in each ses- sion by every participant. Brothers and Silhouettes alike were energized ready to finish the year strong.
