People Make The Difference At the same time, the roundtables stressed that peo- ple, not technology, will be the decisive differentiator. The technology is increasingly available, but companies need new skills, better change management and a workforce that can use digital tools effectively. Young professionals broadly recognized the same forces shaping the indus- try, but tended to see them more as opportunities than threats. Bridging this generational perspective will be im- portant for companies seeking to attract talent and accel- erate transformation. The discussions also highlighted a growing commercial tension around sustainability. Sustainability data, compli- ance and transparency are becoming purchasing require- ments, yet the related costs are often pushed down the supply chain. Converters will therefore need to demonstrate the val- ue of compliance, data and technical expertise more clear- ly, while working with customers and suppliers to make sustainability commercially viable. FINAT now looks ahead to the next European Label Forum, which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from May 19-21, 2027.
UPM Adhesive Materials has released its Climate Review 2025, highlighting continued progress toward its 2030 sus- tainability targets, including reductions in operational emis- sions and expanded collaboration across its value chain. In 2025, the company achieved a 58 percent reduc- tion in Scope 1 and 2 emission intensity compared to its 2015 baseline, moving closer to its goal of a 65 percent reduction per million square meters of material produced by 2030. The progress was driven by targeted improve- ments in energy efficiency and reduced reliance on fossil fuels across its production sites. Beyond its own operations, UPM is placing increased focus on Scope 3 emissions, working more closely with raw material suppliers to improve data transparency and emissions tracking. In 2025, most key suppliers provided product carbon footprint data, enabling a more detailed understanding of environmental impact across materials and regions. The company has also met one of its key 2030 goals ahead of schedule, achieving 100 percent certification of its purchased paper raw materials under third-party forest certification schemes by the end of 2023. The company continues to expand its UPM Label Life service, which provides externally validated life cycle as- sessment data and Scope 3 reporting.
