Regional Training Forum (RTF) Recap
San Antonio RTF | 12.12.24
It was an RTF to remember (note weak Alamo reference). RTF Directors Tresa Wells and Barret Bailey welcomed attendees for a presentation of "The 12 FUNdamentals of Building Leaders" with Aaron Andres of Whataburger. Then, the group enjoyed a rousing game of Jeopardy! ® + “How to Make Your Training Fun and Engaging" with Kevin Adams of ELB Learning.
PresidenTalks Learning from the Past to Live a Better Present, and Shape a Better Future
I recently consulted my friend, ChatGPT, about the importance of learning from the past. Here is what they shared; “Learning from the past is essential for personal growth, societal progress, and the prevention of repeating mistakes.” ChatGPT further goes on to share eight reasons as to why this is important, and I have summarized my top five: 1.Building Knowledge and Wisdom – knowledge from the past
CHART President Dr. Felicia White, Ed.D, CHT forms the foundation for future learning and innovation. 2.Fostering Growth and Improvement – societies evolve by building on the successes and learning from the failures of their ancestors, providing hope and strategies for facing current challenges. 3.Preserving Cultural Identity – understanding historical events and traditions strengthens across generations. 4.Promoting Empathy and Understanding – personal reflection allows us to understand our own actions and those of others, improving relationships. 5.Shaping Better Futures – lessons from the past can guide policy-making, leadership, and decision-making to ensure sustainable progress. You may wonder why I asked myself this question. This thought came to mind as I was considering the significance of the month of February – Black History Month. There are
My tattoo of an Adinkra African tribe symbol. It means "Sankofa" or "to go back and get." The image is a bird reaching back and represents the importance of learning from the past to inform the future.
many individuals and their contributions which are remembered this month, but I was reminded of not just knowing about Black History but learning from it. (Or rather history in general.) In reflecting back on the list shared above, we as training leaders are charged with the same on a daily basis: 1.Build foundational knowledge. 2.Support the growth of our organizations and improvement of our organizations through the people we train. 3.Preserve and promote the cultural identity of the organization. 4.Build authentic relationships and stress the importance of others doing the same. 5.Provide tools and resources that supports and brings the strategy of the organization to fruition. Learning from the past empowers each of us to navigate the present more effectively and support the development of a brighter future.

Legends of the Seelbach: 9 Tidbits About This Iconic Venue
The Seelbach was built in 1905 by Louis and Otto Seelbach, and is known as “Louisville’s Grand Hotel.” The Oak Room, which opened in 1907, was a hangout for Al Capone and other notable gangsters. A series of tunnels were built under The Seelbach in the 1920s for gangsters to elude police. The Grand Ballroom was home to Tom and Daisy Buchanan’s wedding in The Great Gatsby. The Rathskeller, tucked away in the lower level and covered from floor to ceiling by Rookwood Pottery, is the only surviving room like it in the world. The Seelbach has a resident ghost named the “Lady in Blue.” The Old Seelbach Bar is one of the ‘Top 50 Bars in the World,’ serving over 150 bourbons. The Seelbach was the backdrop for The Insider film, and has been featured on the Travel Channel, History Channel, Science Channel, and many others. Over nine United States Presidents have stayed at the Seelbach. (And 1 CHART President will be staying there SOON!) CHART keeps conferences exciting by going to different cities and venues each time. You won’t want to miss the upcoming conference in Louisville in March! Not only for the competency-based training content, but for the opportunity to stay in this storied landmark hotel. Here are some fun facts about The Seelbach:

Video Online Now: Comparing the CHART Summer & Winter Conferences
CHART holds not one, but two, annual conferences each year. Why you ask? Well, from the beginning of CHART more than 50 years ago, the members wanted opportunities to get together more often to build relationships they could draw upon throughout the years. The Summer Conference ignites inspiration and innovation, while the Winter Conference hones trainer skills and deepens competencies. Both events share the same mission – to elevate hospitality training and to empower trainers to shape the future of their organizations and the industry. You can choose to attend both or go back-and-forth between the two – learning from your peers, sharing information, and growing as a stronger hospitality training professional.
