Fields and courts The Veterans Sports Complex offers the city's newest fields and pickleball courts. Ryder Park's sports ball fields, baseball batting cages, and tennis courts. Pickleball courts can be found at Stolley Park and the Veterans Sports Complex. Indoor fields are available at the Community Fieldhouse (pictured).
Local fishing City lakes include L.E. Ray Lake, Eagle Scout Lake, and Suck's Lake which is stocked with trout twice a year. Just outside of town are Mormon Island and Cheyenne State Recreation Area. Drive north to Sherman and Calamus reservoirs for boating, hunting, and more fishing opportunites.
Shooting park 6788 W. Husker Hwy. 308-385-5048 HeartlandPublicShootingPark.com The 420-acre Heartland Public Shooting Park is unmatched for 1,000 miles in any direction. Shooting disciplines available include lighted skeet ranges, lighted trap ranges, a 10-station sporting clay range, archery ranges, and complete rifle and pistol ranges from 25 to 600 yards. Olympic bunker trap was added in 2018. Hike-bike trails Grand Island Parks and Recreation hike-and-bike trails are growing: A new 3-mile loop connects Prairie Commons with the St. Joe Trail along Stuhr Museum. The paved trails move along parks, ponds, and fields, and more trails are in the works for coming years. 1
