2026 Grand Island Visitors Guide

Wings Over the Platte January 25-June 6, 2026 | StuhrMuseum.org

For more than 30 years, the Wings Over the Platte art show at Stuhr Museum has evolved into one of Nebraska’s signature seasonal exhibitions, linking the region’s cultural life with its rich natural heritage. Returning this spring, 26 curated artists are exhibiting work in a variety of mediums. Visitors can reflect on the Platte River, its skies, and the remarkable wildlife migrations that define central Nebraska. This year’s show features renowned conservation photographer Michael Forsberg and his immersive exhibit, Into Whooperland. The installation brings the extraordinary migration of the endangered whooping crane to life through photography, video displays, and stunning 360-degree imagery. Visitors will see a rare and powerful perspective on one of North America’s most awe- inspiring natural journeys. Forsberg is a Senior Fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers, co-founder of Platte Basin Timelapse, and a faculty member with IANR at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His work in the exhibition includes multimedia experiences drawn from his extensive time documenting whooping cranes.
