AW 18/19 Animal Print Growth in UK
Chart Data Animal prints have been trending for some time as trend-led retailers saw a massive spike in growth within their assortments. However, the growth for both mid / mass and value retailers is of greater significance. While the most cutting edge collections may have hit a plateau, at the mass market level, there is still room for growth, especially in regards to a wider variety of prints beyond the ubiquitous leopard. Also of note is excellent full price sell through for garments featuring check prints with woven tops, dresses, and skirts all seeing significant YoY increases.
Market Observations Indeed, animal prints were still featured heavily at many retailers, but did not dominate the sales floor like last Spring. Where we did see animal prints, leopard was still champ (especially at stores aimed at classic ladies), but tiger stripes and snake prints were also highly visible. Fall florals, adorned dresses and worked well with the clear themes of romantic femininity that also made use of high sheen finishes and airy chiffons. Checked shirts were a staple across all retailers with everyone offering a flannel. And, checks were also extremely prominent on all bottomsÑboth skirts and trousers.
