GOLFChicago 2026-1 WEB

sure to visit Hal’s and Mal’s in Jackson. Jazz, bluegrass, and blues permeate these walls for a memorable night out. As we drive north toward the Delta, you cannot understand Mississippi golf without understanding the Blues. The Blues was one of the biggest catalysts of modern music. Born from the work songs and spirituals of enslaved

people in the Delta, it was a genre creat- ed out of necessity—a way to transform suffering into art. The Blues traveled north to Memphis and Chicago, evolving into Rock and Roll, R&B, and Jazz. Every time a golfer hums a Rolling Stones riff or an Eric Clapton solo while walking the fairway, they are unknowingly paying tribute to the Mississippi Delta.

To see this evolution in high-defi- nition, we stopped at the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi in Cleveland. It is the only GRAMMY museum outside of Los Angeles, and for good reason. It fea- tures interactive exhibits that trace how Delta pioneers like Muddy Waters influ- enced global icons. The museum feels like sacred ground for American music.
