The ministry of the Holy Spirit is not exhausted, the purpose o f.God is not com- pleted, when the dross has been burned up. God ever has a positive desire for His people and He longs not only that the dross shall be burned up, but also that the pattern shall be burned in—“Transformed into the same image.” Here, in imagination, is a vase. It is going to be very useful. . . . Like the vase, you long to be a useful Christian. But God desires something be yond that. Do you notice what pains have been taken to make the vase beautiful as well? Do we not realize that God wants His servants to be useful and beautiful for Him, in their character? —Guy H. K ing . Satan "saith unto him. I f thou be the Son o f G od, cast thyself down: fo r it is written, H e shall give his angels charge concerning thee" (Matt. 4 :6 ). The devil is never more diabolical than when he appears with a Bible in his hand. —C. H. M. Unbelief is not an infirmity, or weakness to be condoned or excused: it is a malignant sin.— S elected . and Eve sinned, thus breaking their com munion with God, He has been seeking His fallen creatures. He desires the willing fellowship of those whom He has created for His own joy and pleasure. True worship is hindered by one great obstacle which must be removed before there can be the answer of God’s approval. That barrier is sin. From the testimony of David and from our own intuition we know that if we regard iniquity in our hearts the Lord cannot hear us. That is a spiritual law which cannot be broken. When the Lord Jesus Christ died upon the cross, taking upon Himself all of our sin and un worthiness, He abolished in His own body the barrier which kept us from worshiping God. Now, upon the merit of His shed blood on our behalf, and by appropriating that merit, we boldly may enter the pres ence of God and be assured that He will answer us. He delights in the soul which is truly contrite because of sin, and which desires to forsake wickedness and serve Him as a holy God. From the divine standpoint, God is pleased with the fervent worship of His redeemed ones. From the human aspect, great power and blessing are derived from fellowship with the loving heavenly Father. Nehemiah realized the profound signifi cance of worship when he arranged a great praise service after the walls of Jerusalem had been rebuilt. The stirring picture of the grateful worshipers which attended that service is an admirable pattern for public worship today. Jesus Christ today stands at the door of our hearts and knocks, seeking fellowship O C TO BER 31 “Hath God Said?” NOTES ON CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR [Continued from page 300]

Helps for the Leader I. W orshiping from t h e H eart

When Jenny Lind was coming to this country for her first concert tour, she ex pressed to the captain of the vessel a desire to behold a sunrise at sea. Accordingly, one cloudless morning he had called her at early dawn. Silent, and motionless, she stood by his side upon the deck, watching every change of shade and tint in the sky and their reflection upon the waking waters until the first golden rays shot up from the horizon. As the sun leaped up from the waves she burst into rapturous song, her deeply religious feeling finding expression in the noble music of Handel's "Messiah.” She was unconscious of the presence of the captain and a few sailors who stood near. In the ecstasy of her emotion she lifted her voice to an unseen Hearer to whose majesty and glory she paid her tribute. Little won der that Captain W est in describing the scene, exclaimed: "No one will ever hear ‘I Know that My Redeemer Liveth’ sung as I heard it that morning.” That was true worship.—A. R. H eaps . II. P ractical W orship Worship is not merely a thing of words: it is a high attitude of soul which ennobles the whole of life and conduct. It was this attitude toward God which made Michel angelo, when a friend chided him for paying so much attention to the hair of a statue, on the plea that it would be so high up that no one would see it, answer: “Aye, but God will see it.” —G. B. F. H allock .
