nal dark with suffering and sorrow. For me, death ends all the suffering, all the sorrows, all the weariness and the wander ings. Death ends all the grief and pain, and after death the eternal joy begins. Death ends all your heaven, and death ends all my suffering. You see I agree with you that death ends all.” This new line of reasoning affected his heart deeply, and by hearing the precious gospel message, he passed out of death into life. Truly, “death ends all” of suffering for the one who in faith has heard the Lord Jesus say: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation: but is passed from death unto life” (John 5 :2 4 ). Speaking His Own Language On every occasion seek to find some common ground on which you can talk happily and satisfactorily with the person you seek to win. You may ask the book keeper how he expects to balance the books in the eternal records. W ho will fur nish enough of value to balance and offset his liabilities there? You might ask the railroad engineer why he continues to run past God's semaphore signal, the cross with two red arms outstretched before his path. He is accustomed to seeing the red sema phore extended across the track or lowered to permit him to pass, and God’s sema phore, the cross, will appeal to his sense of application. You might ask the doctor whether he has a remedy that will be effi cacious beyond the grave and whether he has any help for the heart of the one who is given up to die. Misquoting Scripture Sometimes you can win a heart through quoting Scripture incorrectly. On one oc casion a young man told me that he was seeking for peace and had gone forward to the mourners’ bench a number of times try ing to find peace. I opened my Bible to 1 John 5:12 and seemed to read from it these words: "He that hath peace hath life; and he that hath not peace hath not life.” He earnestly requested the privilege of reading the verse for himself, and I ac cordingly handed him my Bible. As he read the verse— “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son o f G od hath not life”—he exclaimed, “Oh, I see what my trouble is! I have been trying to find peace when I should have been seeking for Christ.” He fell to his knees in the office and said, "Lord Jesus, I have been after the wrong thing. I have been trying to get Your gift of peace when I should have been trying to get You Yourself. I take You now. I receive You as my Sav iour and trust You as my Lord.” O f course the long-sought peace flooded his soul at once, for he had received the Prince of peace. The Saviour Himself is the only remedy for human hearts. In a later article, we shall deal more fully with what we may do if the remedy is refused. Always if we de-
