“Back in 1979 when I started my own herd, I knew what I wanted. Having shown nearly every breed during my 4-H and FFA career. The bottom line was you start with a good black cow. Good cattle of any breed would probably work. Having grown up with a feedlot mentality and being around close out sheets and carcass data, my goal was to create cattle that performed well at nearly every level. Dad always told me that at some time in every calf’s life, there would be an opportunity to make a profit. Your job was to figure out when that was. My plan was to start with registered Angus cows. Use AI to use some of the best bulls available. Primarily to raise my own replacements and then use bulls from the continental breeds to create cattle that would excel at the feedlot and the packer. I had some success at that, but also realized my purebred steers could also come close to my crossbreds. So, I ramped up my efforts in AI to produce more pounds and be able to keep the heifers in production. Keeping all traits in balance was important but not always easy. It also made it hard to try to merchandise bulls that were not extreme in any 1 or 2 traits. In 1989 we had a red heifer calf born from black parents. Suddenly we were in 2 different breeds, but my goals had not changed. Even today our motto has not changed. In pursuit of excellence where the only extreme we pursue is extremely well balanced. I like cattle that perform in every facet of the beef industry. Cow/calf, feedlot, packer, and have eye appeal that includes structural soundness, from the ground up. All cattlemen like looking at their cattle and I am no different. So come and see what 45 years of AIing with cows that were developed in our own environment. Not importing embryos from other herds but building them up one generation at a time. Making each one earn their own way. This is what a breeder should be doing. Not just replicating what others have done. Come and see what that looks like.” Kim Siebert, S Diamond Angus

The people behind the scenes. Kim and Lindy Siebert - the begining of it all. This is where it started and still keep it running. Justin, Samantha, Riley and Kayde Haack - They live outside of Clatonia. Samantha is in charge of putting the catalog together and making sure cattle are ready for shows. Riley comes to help as often as he can even though he is in college at Iowa Western for Airframe Maintenance. Kayde will help with anything as long as it drives, our roads would be in better shape if he lived closer. Justin is in charge of making sure things are running so Samantha can go to shows. Kendall, Meghan, Easton and Flynn Siebert - Reside in Henderson. Kendall and Meghan moved back in 2011 to help with the family operation. He is very involved in the farming operation, moving the family farm along for the next generation. Easton is in 6th grade and plays multiple sports, along with 4-H and any cattle show her Aunt Sam can take her to. Flynn is in 2nd grade and you will find him with either a sale catalog in his hand or some kind of cattle related object. He is always ready to just be on the farm.

S Diamond Angus is offering choice of 1 Black Angus Replacement Heifer and 1 Red Angus Replacement Heifer. Base Price $4000.

Pursuit of Excellence Here at S Diamond Angus there is an incredible amount of time and effort put in behind the scenes to ensure that we are delivering our customers the best genetics along with the most functional cattle we can possibly produce. A big step was taken 3 years ago to ensure and prove that we were delivering the most competitive genetics in the country and that was to take some bulls to the Denver Stock Show and compete with some of the top producers in the nation. In doing so we have been able to see where we stack up against other breeders and the great news to us is that we are delivering pen of three bulls that have the pounds to run with the best of the best. The comments we receive from the judges is always the same in that we have rugged, structurally sound, athletic, high performance bulls that should serve commercial customers extremely well. This is certainly our goal and it has been well worth the extra time and effort just to know and ensure our customers, as, well as potential customers that they are buying the best producing genetics on the market. Keep in mind that when we bring pens of three, we are picking from 15 to 20 bulls of each color and going against breeders who are picking from 50 to 200 bulls due to the size of their calf crop. We also like to make sure that our genetics are performing at the highest level in the real world as well and over the course of 5 years we participated in a local steer test and were going up against top pens of commercial cross bred steers. We would bring all of our steers and have multiple pens and would have the top earning pen every year. We even had a year where we had the top gaining steer, top earning steer, and top gaining and earning pen. Many years we would have 5 of the top 10 earning pens and we were not bringing our top steers. This would have been the bottom third of our male calf crop, cause the top two thirds are kept as bulls to have on our sale for our customers. The point of talking about all of this is to let anyone who has bought from us or who is thinking of buying from us know that we are in constant pursuit of excellence on their behalf to make sure that what we are selling gives their cattle operation the greatest opportunity to succeed out in the real world and that the genetics bought here are designed to serve you at the highest level possible.

Being one of the leanest bulls offered his weight has come from his impressive length of mody and muscle. Coming out of Mission Core and Kermadec’s dam probably means there is more to come. Ask Flynn which is the best bull here today and this will be his answer. Keeping ½ semen interest.
