His first daughters are calving now and are quite impressive as young cows. Excellent udder structure and good feet. His Deep End dam is still here working at 7 so Galaxy’s daughters should do well.

Here at S Diamond Angus, we know that calving ease is very important to our commercial customers. We appreciate that lower birthweights usually mean calving ease, which is true. Two years ago, when we had temperatures that were well below freezing for 10 days straight, the size of the calf basically determined if it was going to live or not. The calves that had birthweights lower than 80, were much harder to keep alive than the calves that were above that. Calf vigor is just as important as calving ease in the success of a calf. So when choosing bulls with low birthweights, to prevent calving proplems, consider the fact that smaller calves also do not handle weather changes as well either. We used to think that birthweights in the 70’s, were better than the 80’s and definitely better than the 90’s. But we have found that calves that are in the 80’s to 90’s, have a better chance of survival after birth. There are many factors that can play into calving ease more than just birthweight. As you are looking through our catalog, if we suggest a bull that has a higher birthweight for heifers, please ask us why we feel safe stating that. It can be based on cow data, calf length and shoulder smoothness.
Thank You, for attending our sale. We hope by attending, you will take something home with you that will help you meet your goals for the future. Whether it be a bull, or just some information that you picked up here, either from us, or another customer.
Thanks Again
