Dean College Viewbook

WE BELIEVE IN OUR STUDENTS It has been said that the greatest gift you can give someone is to believe in them. This is exactly how we empower our students here at Dean. Not only do we believe in their potential, but we also embolden them to believe in themselves—to never give up, never settle, and never lose sight of their dreams.

Why Choose Dean?

Dean is for the student who is searching for a college where they can shine academically and personally . A place where they will be supported every step of the way to achieve their specific career aspirations. Dean is also the ideal spot for a student looking to

belong to a community that accepts everyone for their individuality, diversity, learning styles, and unique gifts.

Our mission at Dean is simple:

1. Discover a student’s potential ;

2. Create a personalized plan to achieve their goals; and

3. Put them on a mindful path to realize success.

Potential + Plan + Path = Success

THE DEAN DIFFERENCE It’s not a program or a professor. It’s not a single class or a club. It’s the way our academics, support networks and community overlap, interweave and magnify each other. Our difference unites us. It’s our secret formula. It’s the nucleus around which we orbit. It isn’t one thing. It’s everything.

With a wide range of majors and minors to choose from, Dean students are encouraged to explore their potential and pursue their dreams. We work with each student throughout their Dean journey to create a personalized plan for academic success. At Dean, we value a well-rounded liberal arts education, while also allowing our students to dive deep into their field of study through coursework, hands-on learning, and at least one required internship. With our small, supportive classes, Dean faculty and advisors also get to know each of their students and encourage discussion and different perspectives—while also supporting various learning styles. Additionally, Dean offers an honors program for high-achieving students and more than 150 study-away opportunities from which to choose. A CUSTOMIZED ACADEMIC PLAN

Being a student in Dean’s honors program isn’t just about having harder classes and doing more work. We strive to have the curriculum be about diving deeper into subject matter and experiences. We emphasize critical thinking and taking learning outside of the classroom, like the trip we offer to a different international destination every year.

DEAN’S STUDY AWAY PROGRAM Research shows that studying away during college improves academic performance, enhances students’ intercultural understanding, and increases employability. With over 150 different programs in more than 50 countries , Dean has carefully curated a study-away program with a plethora of options. Students may choose from a weeklong academic trip to a semester to an entire academic calendar year studying away while they’re at Dean.

A PATH TO SUCCESS

From day one, Dean is interested in getting to know each student and discovering how they will best achieve success. We know that everyone learns a little bit differently. Because of this, we are committed to giving each of our students the plan they need to develop a career mindset and prepare them with the skills required to reach their goals. Dean’s close-knit community means students have support not only from professors but also from success and career advisors. Our faculty and staff are experienced guides for Dean students during their college journey, ensuring their paths lead them to successful futures.

THE DEAN CAREER ADVANTAGE Dean takes a holistic approach to career preparation, incorporating it into everything a student experiences while at Dean—from academics to co-curricular opportunities to internships to advising. The goal is to help them design a life and a career that is both meaningful and fulfilling. At Dean, our students have the advantage.

BRING

THE

CLASSROOM

TO LIFE

At Dean, we don’t just want our students to read a book, listen to a lecture, or take a test. We also want them to participate in hands-on opportunities both inside and outside the classroom—applying what they learn to real-world scenarios. Whether that’s acting on a stage as a theatre major or getting behind the mic as a sports broadcasting major, we empower our students to perform at the highest level. Dean students also benefit from academic partnerships with local organizations, learning from and networking with industry leaders. The Dean Career Advantage offers many experiential opportunities to our students, including immersion courses, study away programs, master classes, internships, and research projects, which all help to unlock our students’ full potential on their paths to success. PERFORM AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

I was on stage by the end of my first semester in the New Dancers Showcase, I participated in a master class with an actor from “Kinky Boots,” and by junior year, I was directing a dance piece I created inspired by my study abroad experience in Argentina. I also interned with Jacob’s Pillow, where I learned a lot about what it takes to be a professional dancer and to build a season of shows.

Dean is the only school that accepted the way that I learn instead of how other people learn. It’s helping me explore my strengths, build on my weaknesses, and work on my professionalism, work ethic and time management. BREE G. As a dual athlete in field hockey and softball, being a Bulldog completely enhanced my Dean experience. So much of what I did, whether it’s connections I’ve made or trips I’ve been on, has been because of my involvement as a student-athlete.
