Veterans who served on active duty in a war or conflict may apply for counseling to assist in readjusting to civilian life. Veterans who served in the active military during the Vietnam Era, but not in the Republic of Vietnam, may also be eligible if they requested assistance before January 1, 2004. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services are also available for their family members for military- related issues. These benefits are provided at no cost to the veteran or family.
