of his classmates to join him. John Hershey married Mary Jo Pont in June 2022 in a lovely ceremony after a yearlong engagement. They live in Long Island, New York. He no longer has relatives in New Haven, so at this point has little reason to return. Bill Fogle sometimes uses the tagline “all change is bad” to introduce controversial but fascinating opinions on electric cars and the origins of the Ukrainian conflict, and why the planet’s efforts to avoid warming are destined to fail for lack of complying with the laws of nature—physics, chemistry, thermo- dynamics, and common sense. In his spare time, he is 428 pages into “his seminal opus on Western Civilization and Delta Kappa Epsilon.” Bill is also the person who asked about our class’s military service. Almost 10% of our class served in the military— Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. They are Bill Fogle , Sam Johnston , Mike Maloney , the late Steve Southwick , Tom Sturgess , Hervey Townshend , and John Turnier . Fred Schueler takes the other side of the climate issue and has a plan that only needs the cooperation of Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. In the meantime, he is supervising interns and a grandson and wondering how he is going to harvest a massive crop of Jerusalem artichokes. Tom Warner spent the spring traveling in an RV with his wife, along with Jim Bussman and his wife. They covered 8,800 miles in six weeks, going from Niagara Falls to the Badlands, Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Glacier Park, Yellowstone, Spokane River, then up to Jasper and Banff in Alberta, Canada, then Thunder Bay in Ontario. Ed Woodyard , Rod St. Clair , Dan Kops , Jim Rathschmidt , Willie Maschmeier , and Mike Piccolo report that all is well. 1966 DPH

and Stephen Abbott (who graduated from Choate, actually, in 2003) has Lyra, born October 22, 2019, and Auri, born May 24, 2022. Yes, grandchildren are such a blessing.” abbott8@mindspring.com. Kathy “Kate” Fitzsimmons Parker writes that she retired after 30 years as owner/ administrator of a skilled nursing facility. While focused on her nursing home, her children managed to create six (!) fabulous grandchildren, now aged 9 to 20. Kate helps others navigate the Medicare insurance options and public benefits as a volunteer SHINE counselor. In her spare time, she flies the family Cessna and co-pilots her husband’s helicopter! Summers are spent at the family vacation home on Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts. kateparkerghm@gmail.com. Anne Harris Bacher writes, “I left New England 20 years ago to live first in Fresno, California, and now in Ambridge, Pennsylvania (outside of Pittsburgh). My husband of nearly 28 years had been experiencing health issues for a while and passed away at home in hospice last month. Although I had become his caregiver, I stayed active in local volunteer- ing, including my current position as chair of our Boro Planning Commission.” Anne adds that she’ll “definitely be in Connecticut in August for my son, Brad’s, wedding and would love to hear in the meantime from anyone who would like to stay in touch virtually.” jabacher1@ comcast.net. Elisa Korsi Reisner , class correspondent, writes that the past two and a half years have been challenging, probably for all of us. We got COVID here, even just two weeks ago, in November 2022, for the first time, which was a shock for someone who thought she was untouchable at least from COVID! No, it gets you sooner or later—and that’s with not going out very much! Life does sure look different now than before COVID… Who would have ever thought? reisnercpa@aol.com. Maybe some of us want to think about having lunch in New Haven this coming August 2023. Still a long time away… something light and easy and meeting up with each other. Let’s tentatively plan and see if the universe smiles on our venture! Maybe we can meet up with Anne when she comes in for her son’s wedding! Best wishes to all!

1969 HGS Bruce Jacobs bjacobs@jacobs-jacobs.com After a flurry of recent submissions from the Class of ’69, we are taking a well- deserved breather from our recent long submissions to Views from the Hill . I’m sure that the class enjoyed the lack of pestering by the class secretary, but I’ll be back at it for the next edition (in case you want to block me). Despite my laziness, we still got a few much appreciated updates. Jim Berrie sent this: “Sorry to disappoint Art Baldwin , but I fell short of my goal of cycling my age by my birthday. When I got up to 55 miles in late April, the goal seemed within reach. I signed up for the Ocean to Bay Metric Century Ride (100 km or about 62 miles), figuring that the route plus the ride to and from the starting point would add up to 71 miles. Unfortunately, that ride seemed jinxed. I got a flat about 10 miles into the ride. I replaced the tube, but I must have overinflated it. When I was at the lunch stop, everyone heard what sounded like a gunshot. It was my tire literally exploding! So that was the end of that ride. I scaled back my riding in the summer heat
