The Endless Flow Rocking Chair. 80x42x68 cm This chair enabled Dirk Vander Kooij to pass his final examinations at the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 2010. He rebuilt an old robot and developed a working 3D printer using recycled plastic. Vander Kooij used plastic from refrigerators from a specialised recycling company. This chair is one of several in different shapes and sizes that the robot made in a single process. Vander Kooij’s designs can be modified as they are being made – flaws can be tweaked or corrected from prototype to prototype, thus making each piece unique. This chair on offer is one of the very first of its type. One can see the recycled pieces of the black seal edges from the refrigerator in the chair. One year later Vander Kooij asked the company to recycle the black borders separately so that further manufactured chairs no longer had the black speckles. The ‘Endless Flow Rocking Chair’ has been included in many different museum collections, including the MoMa in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. €600 - €800
