Eclectic Choices

In this auction, the Venduehuis has brought together a broad collection of modern and contemporary art and design. This time it was decided to combine both design and art, not only in this catalogue but also during the viewing days. This means that we can offer you the opportunity to make eclectic choices to enrich your existing collection or yet to be formed collections. In our March catalogue we pointed out that collectors, after a number of decades chose to either rearrange their collection or under some circumstances sell parts of their collection. Past experience of previous collections has shown that the collectors were stimulated to think about the content or the purpose of their possession. Collectors’ couple Karla Kersten and Ge van Steenbergen, after thirty years have decided to sell their collection which has been gathered together with passion. A remarkable collection of which a confrontation with experimentation was never shunned and lead to a lovingly collected compilation of more than eighty works some of which (lots 277-285) will be auctioned in the auction rooms and some (lots 501-568) will be auctioned online. With the departure of Galerie Nouvelles Images, The Netherlands has lost one of the oldest galleries that during a period of almost 60 years was an important contributor to the art climate in this country. The present management had no other choice than to discontinue their activities in the most careful and diligent manner and bring the last works from their collection to the attention of a wide public. The Venduehuis accepted this task gladly. Some seventy works will be offered in this auction, partly in our auction rooms, partly online. All the works from the Nouvelles Images collection can be recognised in the catalogue by the logo. In addition we are offering a large number of artworks from a Dutch corporate collection from the 1960’s.
