Four drivers in Russell were arrested in the past few weeks for impaired driving. A little before 11:45 p.m. on November 22, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted a RIDE Program on Lapalme Street in Embrun. Joseph Brousseau, 59, from Embrun was tested with an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concen- tration of over 80. Around 8:45 p.m. on November 23, offi- cers responded to a complaint on De La Rive Drive in Embrun, where they arrested Matthew Amyot, 35, from Ottawa and char- ged him with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80. Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on December 2, officers responded to a single-vehicle colli- sion on Gregoire Street in Russell Township. Khayman Wood, 27, from Harrowsmith was tested with an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80.

Shortly after 11:45 p.m. on December 8, officers received a complaint about a driver on MacDonald Road in Russell Township. The vehicle in question was stopped when it ran into a police cruiser and the driver was detained. Douglas Tachynsky, 62, from Marionville was charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and failure to stop after an accident. Their licences were suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They’re scheduled to appear in court in L’Orignal at a later date. The Mayor of Russell Township and municipal councillors voted to increase their salaries by $10,000 after eight consecutive years of stagnating pay. During the November 27 regular council meeting, councillors voted to increase their pay retroactively to the beginning of 2023.
