These Sim-Angus heif- ers were AI bred to SydGen Black Pearl 2006 on May 6, 202. All were exposed to SydGen Slash 1130 20088451. Preg check indicates 6 are safe to Black Pearl, and 5 are safe to the Slash son. Kirk and Amy Iman Bellis have always been involved in Missouri agriculture. Kirk grew up on a diversified farm in Ray County near Richmond, MO, and they now reside on one of the farms previously owned by Kirk’s grandparents. Kirk is retired from Bayer Animal Health and they enjoy raising Angus cattle on the home farm. Amy is the daughter of Nick Iman, Iman Angus near Slater, MO, and a well-known Angus auctioneer for many years. He was very involved in the early days of the Missouri BCIA tested bull sales, and was instrumental in the early years of Sydenstricker Angus sales. Their daughter Holly was Missou- ri Angus Queen in 2006.

All were AI bred to SydGen Enhance (Reference Sire P) on May 16, 2025. From June 3, they were exposed to sons of SydGen Blueprint, URF Alpha G138, Sy- dGen Bonus 8084, De-Su Volunteer B122, SydGen KCF Gavel 8361, Bakers Northside 6007, SydGen II Lombardi 9045, HPCA Early Bird 65 and SydGen Exceed 3223. All sires have CED of +7 or better, with genomically enhanced EPDs, the same requirements as Show Me Select service sires. Heifers were ultrasounded and fetal sexed in August. They will be sorted by expected calving date and sex of the calf, and all heifers selling will be due by March 15, 2026. 30 BLACK AND BWF TWO YEAR OLD PAIRS Calves will all be about 30-45 days old on sale day. These are all naturally sired by SydGen bred bulls that are sons of SydGen Blueprint, URF Alpha G138, Bak- ers Northside 6007, HPCA Early Bird 65 and SydGen Exceed. Mershon Cattle is a commercial cattle operation run by the Mershon family in western Missouri. This is the twelfth consecutive year that Mershon Cattle has sold bred heifers in the Sydgen Influence Commercial Heifer Sale. For seven years, they have also sold pairs in the Spring SydGen Influence Sale. They have been using SydGen bulls and semen since 2004. Their herd consists of Angus based, cross-bred cows that have been AI bred using Angus, Hereford and Simmental semen. Steers are retained and sold on the grid. EPDs We have the following abbreviations throughout this book with regard to EPDs. Remember that an EPD is an estimate of how future progeny will perform, relative to other Angus cattle with EPD values. The accuracy figure, just after the EPD, indicates the possible future change in the EPD. The higher the accuracy, the less likely the EPD will change appreciably. BW – Birth weight, expressed in pounds. WW – Weaning weight, expressed in pounds adjusted to 205 days of age. Milk – Influence of the dam, due to her milking ability, on weaning weight, expressed in pounds of calf weaned. YW – Yearling weight, expressed in pounds adjusted to 365 days of age. HS—Hair Shed EPD is expressed in units of hair shed score, with a lower EPD being more favorable indicating a sire should produce progeny who shed their winter coat earlier in the spring. Selection for this trait should improve the genetic potential for a sire’s progeny to shed off earlier increasing the environmental adaptability of cattle living in heat stressed areas and producers grazing endophyte-infected (hot) fescue. TEAT—Teat size, with a larger EPD indicating a smaller teat. UDDR—Udder size, with a larger EPD indicating a smaller, tighter udder. FL—Functional Longeivity attempts to measure likelihood of a cow staying in the herd and maintaining a yearly calving interval, without being culled or dropping back a season. Larger numbers indicate more likelihood the females will remain in the herd longer. RADG-- expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed. CW – Carcass weight, expressed in pounds at a given end point. MARB – Marbling, expressed as a portion of a marbling score (one point of marbling score = 1/3 quality grade). RE – Ribeye area, expressed in square inches, at a given end point. FT – Fat thickness, expressed in inches, at a given end point. SC – Scrotal circumference, expressed in centimeters, at a year of age. CLAW— is expressed in units of claw-set score, with a lower EPD being more favorable indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal claw set. The ideal claw set is toes that are symmetrical, even and appropriately spaced. ANGLE--is expressed in units of foot-angle score, with a lower EPD being more favorable indicating a sire will produce progeny with more ideal foot angle. The ideal is a 45-degree angle at the pastern joint with appropriate toe length and heel depth. CED—Percentage of unassisted births when a sire is mated to virgin heifers. Higher values indicate more unassisted births. CEM—Percentage of unassisted births as first calf heifers. DOC—Percentage increase in number of progeny scoring 1 (most docile) HP—Percentage increase in number of daughters pregnant in their first breeding season. You have probably noticed the American Angus Association no longer computes ultrasound EPDs. The ultrasound and carcass databases have been combined into one set of carcass EPDs, with both carcass data and ultrasound data used to compute those EPDs. We believe this has made it much simpler to understand, and should encourage more collection of carcass data to increase the accuracy of high use sires. Remember that no EPD is an absolute. It simply allows you to compare genetic differences in sires. As an example, if you were to use a high accuracy +30 WW EPD sire in your herd, and the weaning weights average 550 pounds, then you could expect a high accuracy +40 WW EPD sire to sire calves averaging 560 pounds, if used in exactly the same situation. A sire with a +6 BW EPD should sire calves averaging 4 pounds heavier at birth than a sire with a +2 BW EPD. Bring Your Semen Tank Sale Day If you place your semen order with Ben or Darla at the SydGen office by November 2, 2025, we can have semen on ANY ORIgen sire available to pick up at the farm on sale day with no shipping charges.
