Parks For all Foundation is a not-for-profit organization making your contributions TAX- DEDUCTIBLE! The Parks For all Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, which uses tax deductible contributions, bequests and sponsorships to support major capital improvements, programs and special projects for Shawnee County Parks + Recreation. The foundation is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors whose mission is to enhance the park and recreation experience in Shawnee County through charitable contributions of time and resources. Parks and Recreation facilities add to the community’s quality of life and quality of place; they provide a sense of pride and cohesion.

PRESCHOOL PLAY ZONE This program is dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching experience for toddlers, promoting their holistic development. Parents and provides are encouraged to help provide learning experiences for participants. Gyms are open for large motor play and socialization. Equipment provided.

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation programs are developed with several goals in mind: SCP+R strives to promote a healthy, active lifestyle through program activities and choices. SPORTY SPROUTS
Recreational sports clinics provide a great way to introduce kids to a variety of activities that encourage an active healthy lifestyle. Clinic instructors will provide a safe, positive environment for kids to work on new skills. Good sportsmanship and team building are emphasized.

FLOOR HOCKEY Calling all preschoolers! Lace up your imaginary skates and grab your sticks because it's time to hit the "ice" with our exciting Preschool Floor Hockey Clinic. Designed specifically for our youngest athletes, this clinic offers a fun and interactive introduction to the thrilling world of floor hockey. From holding the stick correctly to dribbling and passing, every session includes age-appropriate drills and games that focus on building fundamental skills.

CHEER
Participants will work with pompoms to develop basic movements of cheer. We will also work on chants and basic cheers. Through this fun interactive class preschoolers increase attention span, and self-esteem. Team work and a positive attitude are always encouraged. Fun games will help improve listening skills and gross motor movement.

NINJA WARRIOR TRAINING
The Preschool Ninja Warrior Program is a high-energy, fun class designed specifically for young children. Inspired by obstacle courses and activities in the style of "ninja warrior" challenges, this program helps preschoolers develop strength, coordination, balance, and confidence in a playful environment with safety in mind. Skills will include mats, jumping, and obstacles, no high elements.

JUMP + JIVE
DANCE 1 Our dance classes provide a nurturing and imaginative environment where young children can explore the world of dance. Participants will develop coordination, rhythm and basic ballet and tap moves that will support large motor skills.
Jump into an exciting and active program tailored to the developmental needs of preschool-aged children. This class is specifically designed to help young kids build their gross motor skills, enhance their physical coordination, and encourage a love for movement in a safe and nurturing environment. WINTER 2024
YOUTH ZUMBA® KIDS JR. DANCE PARTY Zumba® Kids Jr. Dance Party is a fun and energy-packed, kids-only dance-fitness class. In this 60-minute fitness dance party class, we will use pretend-play to learn dance choreography, play games, and explore cultures from around the world. Each month, we will explore a new culture and dance style. Wear tennis shoes/sneakers and comfortable clothes you can move in. Bring a water bottle. No jeans or dresses, please.
TO CATCH A LEPRECHAUN Perfect for kids of all ages, this program invites children to explore the magic of St. Patrick's Day through a hands-on, imaginative, and educational experience. Shawnee North Community Center Age: 6-12 yrs. Date: March 17 Time: Mon. 6-7:30 p.m. Fee: $5 per class WINTER WONDERLAND ART SERIES The "Winter Wonderland" art series is designed to ignite the creativity and imagination of grade school students while celebrating the beauty and magic of the winter season. This series of art projects will provide students with a diverse range of artistic experiences and mediums to explore the winter theme, fostering their artistic skills and appreciation for this special time of year.

Participants will build tap and ballet skills, and be introduced to jazz dance in a safe, social environment. No prior dance experience is required, though learning is at a faster pace than Dance 1. Date: Jan. 7-Feb. 4, Feb. 25-April 8 (No class on March 11 & 18) Time: Tues. 6-6:45 Fee: $30 TUMBLING 2 In this 5-week class the students will learn more advanced tumbling skills focusing on gross motor skills and balance. 5- year-olds should be in Kindergarten and have some tumbling experience or instructor approval before registering. This class increases flexibility and motor skills in a safe, social environment. Crestview Community Center Ages: 5-9 yrs. Date: Jan. 7-Feb. 4, Feb. 25-April 8 (No class on March 11 & 18) Time: Wed. 5:30-6 p.m. Fee: $30 NERF WARZONE: BATTLE ROYALE Utilize the mats and pads in the room to create fortifications we provide the guns and bullets and protective gear. We can take turns having kids fight between teams as well as have a free for all battle. Can be low cost due to already having the stuff needed in the room. This program provides a way to celebrate Call of Duty warzone. Released on March 10, 2017. Nerf gear provided.

TIKI TIME: PAPER MACHE The "Tiki Time" Paper Mache Tiki Class is a fun and creative workshop that invites participants to explore the world of Polynesian art and culture by crafting their very own tiki masks and sculptures using the versatile medium of paper mache. This class is a hands-on, interactive experience suitable for people of all ages and skill levels
Steven Massey, founder and director of It Takes a Village, will offer after school performing arts programs in partnership with SCP+R. ADOPT-A- PARK/TRAIL Show your community pride by adopting one of Shawnee County’s 110 parks or 60-miles of trails through our Adopt-A-Park program. What does it mean to adopt a park or trail? This program encourages your group to help the community enjoy our parks and trails through beautification activities and monthly debris pick up. What do you gain from adopting a park or trail? By adopting a park or trail, you can work together with Shawnee County Parks + Recreation to promote a sense of pride and appreciation of our parks and resources. It also provides the perfect excuse to get outside! Who can adopt a park or trail? Anyone! ADULT AIRPLANE CLUB
OIL AND ACRYLIC PAINTING Instructor Mary Lou Gudenkauf teaches the basics of oil or acrylics using the Old Masters technique in a friendly group setting. Both mediums can be taught. All levels will feel comfortable and receive individual attention from the instructor. A supply list can be obtained from the center.
Our RC Airplane Club is a dedicated community of aviation enthusiasts who share a common love for remote control flying. Whether you're a seasoned pilot or just starting out, our club offers an inviting and supportive environment for everyone with an interest in model aircraft. KICK WHEEL CLASSES In this beginner 4 week kick wheel class, you will learn the fundamentals of creating a pot on the wheel—all while getting a great workout! This 4-week pottery class designed for beginner students wanting to try wheel-throwing using a traditional kick wheel. This class is perfect for testing your creativity and skills. Participants are required to wear close-toed shoes and prepare to get messy.

HISTORY PROGRAMS THE POOR ASYLUM Nestled against the banks of Indian Creek, Shawnee North Park was originally established in 1871 as the Shawnee County Poor Farm. Over its 150 year history it has housed hundreds of people, and was an important institution for Topekans and individuals living in Shawnee County. This presentation explores the park’s history, beginning with its roots in the Civil War and until its doors closed in 1942. Explore a by gone institution with connections to other important Topeka Hospitals and parks.
GHOST HUNT: SHAWNEE NORTH Meet the spirits of the Shawnee North Community Center. This old brick building was once the Shawnee County Poor Farm and housed 65-85 individuals who lived and died within its walls. Explore this lesser known historic building run by the Shawnee County. This program is led by Ghost Tours of Kansas. This activity is indoors, but can include exploration of the grounds.

Master Beekeepers, Steve and Becky Tipton offer exciting opportunities in beekeeping. Explore hive construction, installing the bees and hive management up until harvest time. This monthly class goes through Oct. Some classes may be done virtually. Pre-registration is required.

CLAY CLASSES Try out this exciting new program and explore pottery with this instructed class and learn how to use molds, hand building and other basic skills. All tools and materials provided.
Join us as we journey through time, uncovering the evolution of Topeka’s hospitals and why the Capital City use to be called “the psychiatric capital of the world.” Explore institutions such as the Topeka State Insane Asylum, which housed and provided medical care for their residents. Or lesser known hospitals like the Security Benefit Hospital, or the Hillcrest Sanatorium. Finally, we will cover one of Topeka’s greatest contributions to medicine, covering the Menninger Family and their important psychiatric work.

Discover Great Overland Station's connection to the National Parks and rail travel. Train travel was incredibly important in the early tourism development in Yellowstone, Glacier, and the Grand Canyon National Parks. The Union Pacific and Santa-Fe Railroad companies were integral in not only establishing the parks, but also funding hotels, restaurants, and other attractions at the parks. Discover the stories behind the iconic railroads that connected the nation, carving through breathtaking landscapes and paving the way for adventurers and tourists alike.
GREAT OVERLAND AFTER DARK! Great Overland Station has been a Topeka Landmark and seen floods, fires, and the city change around it. Explore this historic building in the dark as we turn off the lights and hear tales of heroism, travel, and the origins of Topeka. Then go to the second floor and hear stories about Downtown Topeka and the Capital building. This program has a little bit for everyone!

SENIORS
SHUFFLEBOARD Floor shuffleboard is played on a long and narrow rectangular playing surface, with marked scoring zones at the opposite ends. The objective is to slide weighted discs or pucks down the playing surface, landing them in designated scoring areas or knocking your opponents' pucks out of scoring positions. Shuffleboard benefits seniors by being low-impact and social while also requiring mental engagement and being adaptable to many mobility levels.
PITCH
Pitch, also known as "Setback", is a trick-taking card game that is typically played by four to seven players. It is a highly strategic and competitive game that uses a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Coffee and cards provided.

INDOOR BOCCE BALL Indoor bocce is a variation of the traditional outdoor game. Players take turns rolling or tossing bocce balls with the goal of getting them as close as possible to a smaller target ball, called the pallino. Indoor bocce benefits seniors by being low impact, social, cognitively engaging and accessible.

BRIDGE Bridge is a card game that is played by four players, divided into two teams. It's a trick-taking game that requires strategy, memory and communication between partners. We’re taking fun to the parks, events and even your workplace. Mobile recreation programs make it even easier to bring fun and play to people of all ages and any location. The Rec + Roll Van is outfitted with yard games, balls, hula hoops, disc golf, art and fitness supplies, music and a PA system with microphones. Look for the Rec + Roll Van in your neighborhood. A calendar of scheduled appearances is available at parks.snco.us. SCP+R can also bring the van to your work for adult recess, staff team building for retreats or fitness programs. This is a great way to add an exciting fitness component to your next work event. Play is for all ages. Professional staff - The van is staffed with knowledgeable and engaging professionals who facilitate and guide recreational activities and community interactions. The Ted Ensley Gardens are located on the west side of scenic Lake Shawnee, offering a great panoramic view of the lake. The 9.5- acre garden area features a wealth of design ideas and spectacular plantings. The Garden’s entrance is at the Trailhead facility located north of West Edge Road and 37th Street. The entrance begins with a 60-foot covered bridge and continues through to meditation and rock gardens, annual and perennial beds, rose and water gardens, a gazebo, pergola, pagoda, waterfalls and several ponds. An arboretum with 120 species of trees is just across the street. The Junior Fishing Pond is just south of the garden area.
