To create the Stella Rosa wines, our family chose the region of Asti, a province in Piedmont, Italy, as the source for its aromatic grapes, which have become the hallmark for the Stella Rosa style of wines. The area of Asti has particular significance to our family, as it is the birthplace of our family matriarch, Maddalena Riboli. Our first Stella Rosa wine was Moscato D’Asti, which has become a flagship of this line. Soon after, Stella Rosa Rosso was created – the brand’s first semi-sweet, semi-sparkling red wine blend, and first wine of its kind to be brought to America from Asti. The rapid phenomenal successes of these two wines began the lineage of Stella Rosa, which now boasts over 20 distinctive flavors.

THE STORY The year was 1924. It was the heart of the Prohibition Era and wine’s darkest hour when it was outlawed and deemed unconstitutional. Located in Oyón, one of the historic cities of the D.O.Ca. La Rioja, El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970. During these almost 50 years of history, El Coto has strived to create of one of the most recognized wine brands in Spain and around the world. Existing within the unique microclimate of the Finger Lakes is a subclimate known throughout the region as the “Banana Belt.” This 9-mile stretch on the eastern side of Seneca Lake runs north from Burdett through Hector to Valois, and is typically warmer than surrounding areas. These warmer conditions result from the vast depth of the lake, constant airflow from the lake, and the western facing slopes that capture the sun at the hottest times of day – the afternoon and evening. Due to its depth, it is extremely rare that Seneca Lake freezes over in the wintertime. The lake retains and gradually expels the warmth of the water gained in the summer months, which aids in inhibiting vine destruction that may result from the harsh winter temperatures.

Buttonwood Grove winery has established a reputation for producing some of the most noteworthy wines in the Finger Lakes, as well as hosting exceptional events, due to the hard work and dedication put forward by previous owners Ken and Diane Riemer. When the unique opportunity arose to purchase the beautiful Buttonwood property in early 2014, Dave and Melissa leapt at the opportunity. Since their purchase of the winery, they have greatly expanded the vineyards and completed the construction of a new wine-making building, along with upgrades to the on-site cabins and implementation of a full summer music series. In 2017, their efforts led to being awarded the Governor’s Cup, designating the 2016 Riesling as the Best Wine in New York State.

Whilst the majority of Port is now made with modern methods using state-of-the-art vinification technology, a small proportion is still produced by the time- honoured method of treading. Warre’s continues to make some of its Port by treading in stone ‘lagares’ (shallow treading tanks). The Upper Douro is one of the last places in the world where traditional treading has been maintained. This is not done to entertain visitors but quite simply because it continues to produce some of the best Ports. However, the old lagares require manpower, an increasingly scarce resource in the Upper Douro and temperature control is difficult. In order to address these problems, Warre’s winemaking team developed the world’s first purpose built automated treading machine.

With great finesse, the nose opens up with a subtle aromatic bouquet with notes of white spring flowers such as acacia and lily of the valley. Delicate and elegant, the palate reveals great freshness which continues with a beautiful length. BLANC Attractive intense yellow colour with shiny reflections. This wine opens up with a complex nose and a beautiful aromatic range combining notes of ripe fruit such as plums and candied orange sublimated by a touch of ginger. Well-balanced and dense, the mouth opens with a frank attack and a nice acidic tension before revealing all its fullness and its greedy aromas of candied fruit. The long finish is elegant thanks to a delicate bitterness. ROUGE Seductive intense and deep ruby-red colour with purple undertones. This wine reveals a powerful nose with an aromatic variety harmoniously blending notes of very ripe black fruit with subtle notes of spices, enhanced with a hint of Sichuan pepper. Elegant and remarkably balanced, the palate offers fine tannins and superb aromas of small red fruit underlined by delicate peppery notes. Typical notes of Syrah that linger on a very long finish.
