Memory Ranches - Annual Bull Sale [11/6/25]

THE PEARCE FAMILY

We welcome all of you to the ranch, both our long-time friends and our new acquaintances. We are proud to show you the results of our efforts to breed profitable, problem-free, easy fleshing cattle that breed true.

After graduating from college, I went to work for R.J. Kaltenborn in Enterprise, Utah. He had some of the best Angus cattle available in the 1970’s having paid five and ten thousand dollars for cows and having bought the Denver National champion bull in 1972. This bull proved to be an outstanding range bull producer. He was not a show bull but truly a beef bull. When Kaltenborn’s ranch was sold, the new owner paid us our wages in Angus cows instead of money. We left Utah with thirteen great cows and very little in our pockets. We moved to Jordan Valley, Oregon, and then to New Plymouth, Idaho, where we raised our family of seven children and built our herd of cattle for forty years. We were involved in our church and community there, serving for fifteen years as a state senator and representative. In 2018 we found a ranch in Clover Valley, Nevada, and made the move. This gave us the opportunity to run our cattle in a harsh desert environment. Because of the high elevation, we began PAP (Pulmonary Arterial Pressure) testing our cattle. For the first few years we tested cows, yearling bulls, and yearling heifers to find any that could not thrive in higher elevations. Dr. Tim Holt, DVM, from Colorado State University (developer of the PAP test), has found that cattle with strong hearts and lungs have fewer metabolic problems relating to fertility, feed efficiency, and overall health. Research shows that calves out of good PAP score bulls have fewer respiratory problems in the feedlot. To get an accurate PAP score, they must be tested at over 5000 feet elevation. Animals must also be growing to achieve an accurate reading. Our bulls are tested at 5900 feet. Our focus has always been on our cows. You have to have a good factory if you want a good end product. The most valuable cows on our place are the oldest cows. They have stood the test of time, surviving, raising, and breeding every year. We don’t and will never sell the top out of our heifers. They represent our genetic progress, and cannot be replaced by simply buying somebody else's top heifers. After weaning these bulls last fall, they were fed hay and 4 lbs. of grain. We stopped feeding corn in February and they have been on triticale and alfalfa/grass hay since then. We feel like these bulls will grow out and work in tough, harsh environments. We run 500 commercial cows, and we use our own bulls on them, including yearling bulls. These bulls have worked in Idaho, Oregon, California, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Utah. We believe they will work in your environment too.

We hope to see you at the sale!
