Covid Vaccine Promo_campus

Message from Dr. Humphrey My goal, when making any decision pertinent to the college, is to do what is best to continue to move Missouri Valley College forward while maintaining a safe, healthy, academically sound, and financially stable option for educating the students we love. COVID-19 has presented lots of challenges and we have successfully managed each challenge we have faced.

I had hoped for a normal fall semester and I have not changed my mind yet. I do have hope that we can have activities and events. Last Saturday, approximately 94 students and coaches came to campus to have a football mini camp. All parties were tested upon arrival to campus and they all tested negative. Twenty-four of the participants had already been vaccinated and several more made plans with the Student Health Center to initiate vaccination. At this time, we are still planning for in-person classes as normal. Plexiglass has not been changed from last spring unless someone specifically asked for it to be removed. If you asked for it to be removed from your office or teaching area and want it returned, please let us know. In closing, I want to strongly encourage everyone to consider receiving vaccination against COVID-19; help protect yourself and your community. Vaccination is the key to returning to ‘normal’ campus life.

As I watch the COVID-19 numbers rise again, I am very concerned with the Delta variant’s transmission rate. We had a “mask optional” summer because the number of cases continued to drop and because the number of people on campus was also very low and we had several very successful vaccination clinics on campus.. I hope that we have a high percentage of our campus community vaccinated by the time school starts, but for now, I believe it is time to make a change in some of our COVID-19 protocols. Beginning August 3, 2021, we will again have a mask mandate on campus while inside campus buildings. I am hopeful that our vaccination incentives will help encourage students and employees to make the decision to become vaccinated. Until further notice, however, a mask mandate will be in place inside all buildings and classrooms. If you are alone in your office space or dorm room, a mask is not necessary, but much like last year, when someone comes into your space, both of you should wear a mask.

COVID-19 Testing - Fall 2021 Missouri Valley College will be conducting gateway testing again for all students, faculty and staff. The college will be performing an antibody test that will inform if the individual currently has COVID-19 or if they have antibodies from a past exposure or from receiving vaccination. The college will also be using a diagnostic antigen test to test individuals who either present with COVID-like symptoms or “fail” an antibody test. The Health Department will come after August 22 if needed. Each of these dates coincides with check-in and testing. While not every check-in date has a vaccination clinic, there is a vaccination clinic closely associated within a day or two of every check-in.
