N iall Gaffney’s leadership style is insightful and visionary and he has always been very aware of the critical impact that mentoring and educating apprentices and potential young employees has on his business. This commitment to supporting the next wave of engineering professionals has just been officially recognised with Gaffney Mechanical winning the 2020 Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year award. The theme for this year’s award was ‘Leadership’. Announcing the winners, Minister Simon Harris said, “Each winning company stood out for their leadership in 2020 and their excellence in supporting apprentices across Manufacturing Engineering, Accounting, Plumbing and Hospitality skill areas.” Ensuring that future skills gaps are constantly being pre-empted has meant that Gaffney Mechanical have been able to constantly take on and train young apprentices according to their needs while also addressing the future employment needs of the apprentice. Key senior acquisitions within Gaffney Mechanical have also ensured that growth is always being matched by a level of key training skills and engineering expertise which allows them to expand their ability to provide a full range of skills, training and educational opportunities to their apprentices.
