harm’s way, it’s just to build more courage. It also keeps Jiminy Cricket from whispering in my ear, “You’re going to bomb it.” Tim Ferriss challenged me to hug a stranger. I don’t hug strangers. However, I do ask for discounts at restaurants and coffee shops, and I pray for strangers based on Ferriss’ challenge. He authored the book “The 4-Hour Workweek,” and the idea really isn’t much different than going to the gym and working on a new exercise: We must challenge the muscle to learn and accomplish something new.
Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You to Death IT’S SIMPLE … YET SO DIFFICULT
I keep repeating it over and over in my head, “Do one thing every day that scares you to death, Tester, one thing every day!” I encourage all my clients and prospects to do the same when it comes to picking up a phone to call a prospect for an appointment or asking someone to buy. So why can’t I do it? It’s only a stage, and all I must do is pick up the microphone and say a few words. I’ve been on stage many times in years past, but not to do stand-up comedy. In fact, I’ve been onstage as an uninvited guest, and even as a member of the 1972 national championship football team.
1972 national championship football team uninvited), to shooting a gun, to riding a horse. I haven’t checked all the goals off the list yet, but I’m getting closer. The one goal that has eluded me, however, is walking on stage and doing four minutes of stand-up comedy. One of the pictures that you see in my newsletter is me introducing the band at a nightclub. Again, uninvited. I just walked up on stage, said a couple of words, and introduced the band. The idea isn’t to prank anyone (like walking out with the national championship team was), it’s just to get in and do one thing every day that will scare me to death. As for the comedy bit, I’ve added a couple of photos that show me getting help from my comedy mentors, Megan of Boise and Bryant and Butch of Las Vegas. I built the lines for my stand-up comedy bit and finally pulled myself on stage at an open mic night. It doesn’t matter if I bombed or was the next Jimmy Fallon. It’s all about the act of doing one thing every day that scares me to death. It makes me a better trainer and coach when I take more risks. To be clear, the risk isn’t about breaking the law or putting myself in
Before you can ask your team to do one thing today that scares them to death, you will have to show them that you are willing to do the same thing. Call the big fish prospect, go door-knocking with them, or ask for a discount at Starbucks. If you need motivation, I have some mini challenges for you that might be helpful. Visit GoDaveTester.com and ask for “Risk Help” on my Connect page. If I can do stand-up comedy or walk on a field with former football champions, you and your team can learn to take risks as well! Perhaps you won’t be on a stage, but you’ll be in front of a client or prospect where you can ask for an appointment, a bigger deal, or a sale. Do one thing every day that scares you to death. You’ll be better in the end if you do.
“So, Tester, what’s the back story here about doing one thing that scares you to death?” I’ve decided I want to take my craft of making cold calls and customer care calls to an all-time high. To do that, I must take more risks. At the start of this year, I created a list called my “50 for 2022.” The idea was to write down 50 things I wanted to do this year. From attending a USC football game in the coliseum last month (quick side note: that’s when I walked out on the field with the

ADD MORE LIFE TO YOUR WORK-LIFE BALANCE With These 3 Tips
One of the biggest concerns employers have with remote work revolves around employees finding distractions at home that will take their attention away from job duties. While this is certainly true
for yourself for a time when your work day comes to a close — and put everything away so you can focus on your home life. Establish a workspace. Our environment can play a large role in how we feel each day.
for some remote workers, it doesn’t apply to everyone. Certain individuals will even be drawn back into work at home when they’re supposed to be spending time with their family or doing hobbies they enjoy. In fact,
If you haven’t established a workspace in your home, you might struggle to separate work from home life. Think about it; if you work from your living room, you will probably find it more difficult to relax there later in the evening. You don’t have to turn an entire room into an office, but dedicating a corner as your workspace will come with benefits. Wear work attire. What we wear has an effect on how we feel.
when remote workers don’t unplug from their work, they are much more likely to burn out. If you or your employees are currently working remotely, it’s important to establish a proper work-life balance. Here are three ways to include more personal time in your daily routine. Set boundaries. After you clock out for the day, it can be easy to get dragged back in if you get a text or email relating to your job. That’s why it’s important to set boundaries for yourself. Once you reach a certain time in the day, turn off your work phone or email. Set an alarm
If you’re wearing sweatpants while you work, it can be difficult to unwind when you’re off the clock and wearing the same clothes. Switch it up and wear professional attire while you’re working. When the workday comes to a close, you can shed your work clothes for something comfier, which will help you relax and focus on what’s going on at home.
TESTER’S- TRAVELS Fisherman’s Wharf – San Francisco Most of the boats berthed at Fisherman’s Wharf belong to a third generation of fishing crafts, piloted by descendants of the fishermen who made their livelihoods on the waters of San Francisco Bay. Today many fishermen use their boats and their knowledge to offer boat tours around the waterfront. Walk along the Fisherman’s Wharf area and you will be drawn to the incredible offers. Basically, these boats will go wherever you want:
Under the Golden Gate Bridge, around Alcatraz, inside Pier 39 and near the sea lions, etc. The boats generally seat 6–10 people, so you basically have a private charter around the bay!

3 SELLING STRATEGIES TO AVOID OR YOUR POTENTIAL CLIENTS WILL AVOID YOUR BUSINESS
Have you ever walked into a business, talked to a salesperson, and left annoyed or angry? You may have even claimed that you would never return to the business again. It’s a situation that happens fairly often and proves certain sales strategies just don’t work. It’s important for business owners and salespeople to be aware of these strategies so they can avoid using them and upsetting their customers. You want your customers to enjoy working with your business so they return or refer people to you. If you’re using the wrong strategy, you’ll miss out on referrals and repeat customers. Here are a few selling strategies to avoid in your business. Failing to Focus on the Customer’s Main Problem When a customer steps into your business to purchase a product or service, there’s a good chance they’re trying to find a solution to a particular problem. Many salespeople make the mistake of explaining the bells and whistles of their product or service instead of listening to the customer’s main concerns. When you can provide a solution to the customer’s problem, you will be much closer to making a sale. Overpromising and Underdelivering Plenty of salespeople like to promise the world to their customers but there’s a limit to what they can actually offer. When salespeople
overpromise, they are essentially lying, and it will come back to bite them. Customers don’t like being lied to and will be quick to share their experiences with others. A great way to avoid this is by offering a free trial so your customers can experience the product for themselves with no strings attached. They’ll know exactly what they’re buying, and you’ll be there to answer their questions and explain all the features and benefits without having to overpromise. Arguing With Customers Sometimes customers will respond to your product or service with unrealistic or unreasonable objections. Stay silent or ask questions to further understand where they’re coming from because if you start arguing with a customer, you will lose the sale. There’s no foolproof way to sell to everyone, but by avoiding the above selling strategies, you will have a better chance of closing more sales.

Calico Cat Saves Owner From Would-Be Burglars

GUARD CAT MODE ACTIVATED Feline Defender Prevents Robbery We’ve heard of guard dogs, but have you ever heard of a guard cat? Well, Bandit the calico cat somehow knew exactly what to do when she spied intruders at her owner’s back door! Some may call it instinct, some may call it luck, but to Fred Everitt, she’s a hero. Everitt, a 68-year-old retired oral surgeon, was sound asleep in his Mississippi home on Sunday, July 24, when Bandit started letting out deep meows sometime between 2:30–3 a.m. Everitt assumed Bandit had seen another cat or other animal outside. Cats tend to be active at night, and Bandit is no exception. She’s been known to roam the living room and explore the kitchen cabinets while Everitt sleeps soundly. He quickly realized it was something else when she came into his room and tried to pull his comforters off and clawed at his arms. Bandit’s behavior was unusual, so Everitt knew something was wrong. “She had never done that before,” Everitt said. “I went, ‘What in the world is wrong with you?’” Bandit’s persistence eventually pulled him from bed, and after throwing his robe on, he went to investigate. When he finally got into the kitchen, he noticed two figures — one with a crowbar and one with what looked like a handgun — trying to break into his back door.
By the time Everitt returned from retrieving his own handgun, the intruders were gone. Thankfully, it didn’t turn into a confrontational situation, and Everitt gave credit to the 20-pound cat that he adopted from a humane society. If it hadn’t been for Bandit’s alertness, it could’ve been a completely different story. “I want to let people know that you save a life when you adopt from a pet shelter or rescue one,” Everitt said, “but the tides could be turned. You never know when you save an animal if they’re going to save you.”
