A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
Cornwall - 26 - 29 November Carol Singing at Fenwicks - 12.30-3.30pm - 29 November
who came joint third. Our thanks go once again to the Twickenham Upon Thames Rotary Club for organising this event. Kenza and Mila will now go forward to compete in the regional final due to take place in February. Well done to all the competitors and good luck for the next round. I am delighted to invite parents and pupils to our whole school production, The Return, taking place after school Tuesday to Thursday next week. Pupils from Years 7 to Year 12 have come together throughout the Autumn Term to design the fantastic poster, the set, stage manage the show and, of course, learnt character and acting skills to bring the work to life. It is a fantastic production and they have worked really hard so I hope to see many of you attending next week to support the show. Our Sixth Form Arts Students will be heading to Cornwall on Tuesday for their residential trip. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to engage with the rich artistic heritage of St Ives and immerse themselves in a dramatic landscape to inspire their creativity. We hope this collaborative experience builds their confidence and they come back with new ideas for their portfolios and coursework. A reminder that on Monday 25 November, the school is closed to students due to a staff training day.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Thank you to those parents who attended the Breck Foundation webinar on Monday evening. If you were unable to attend, there is a recording of the event available via this link. The passcode is %jS6cZ6! Looking forward to next week, we will be starting our annual focus on the UN’s global campaign 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Violence. This global campaign runs every year from the 25th November (Inter- national Day to End Violence Against Women) till the 10th December (Human Rights Day). It aims to highlight the high incidence of violence aimed at women and girls and to encourage everyone to take some responsibility for stopping it. Part of this is the White Ribbon Campaign, which encourages men to make a pledge never to commit, excuse, or keep silent about violence against women. You can find out more about the campaigns via these links UN 16 Days of Activism and White Ribbon Campaign. If you or your child have been affected by any of these concerns, please see a list of available support.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
We are well and truly back into the swing of things as the half term break feels like quite the distant memory. This week I have enjoyed visiting Year 8 students in lessons, it is always so lovely to see their enthusiasm and high standard of work. It is not long now until the Waldegrave production of The Return hits the stage next week. We know that the Music, Art and Drama department have been working tirelessly with the students involved, clocking many hours of rehearsals so far, holding frequent after school sessions and creating scenes and props. A big well done to all students that are involved with this show - we cannot wait to see it! This week’s engaging assembly, led by Ms Lane and our Anti Bullying Ambassadors, was about UK Disability History Month. This is an annual awareness event focusing on the history of the struggle for equality and hu- man rights. The topic followed on directly from Anti-Bullying Week and was thought provoking and insightful. Our top three epraise forms this week are as follows - 8PUN with points 900, 8STR with 856 points, 8FLE with 782 points, a huge well-done to those individuals who have achieved epraise - keep up the great work! A spe- cial mention must go to Marhyarta K from 8PIR who has a achieved a staggering 86 epraise points to date, she is leading with this total across all of the year groups - which is fantastic! Today the Richmond Schools Cross Country Championships took place at Bushy Park. We are incredibly proud of the Year 8 pupils who represented the school, running in a 2.5km race against their peers from schools across Richmond Borough. We look forward to finding out how they got on next week. Please note Monday is an INSET day, with students not expected to attend school. Pupils involved in the pro- duction will still need to come in for their dress rehearsal - we wish them all the best with their final rehearsals.
Thank you for all your support and here’s to another busy week at Waldegrave for our wonderful Year 8s!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ - Michelle Magorian
During WW2, a young boy called William Beech is sent to stay in the countryside with old Mr Tom. Tom discovers bruises on William and realises he was being mistreated by his mother back in London. As the war continues, William’s mother demands that he comes home and leaves his new life in the countryside. This story explores the powers of friendship and the importance of fighting for the people you love.

This is the culmination of the students’ hard work, with pupils from Years 7-12 working together throughout the Autumn Term to design the poster, the set, stage manage the show and, of course, learnt character and acting skills to bring the work to life. The Return is about how we value human life, asking how much are you worth? We hope to see a large audience of parents and students attending next week supporting their peers across the school. Scan the QR code on the poster overleaf or follow this link to buy tickets. Last week our Year 7/8 football team demonstrated an excellent performance, beating Hampton High 6-0. This win means they have qualified for the Borough Final against Grey Court. Good luck to the team! Despite playing away this week, our Year 10/11 Netball team played a fantastic match on Monday. Great goals from Aggie D and Anya S and brilliant interceptions from Alex A. A great team performance! Our Year 8/9 Basketball Team won their first league match against Sr Richard Reynolds this week with an impressive score of 38 goals to 12. It was a great team performance with some very impressive attacking and defensive play.
