A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER

Cornwall - 26 - 29 November Carol Singing at Fenwicks - 12.30-3.30pm - 29 November

who came joint third. Our thanks go once again to the Twickenham Upon Thames Rotary Club for organising this event. Kenza and Mila will now go forward to compete in the regional final due to take place in February. Well done to all the competitors and good luck for the next round. I am delighted to invite parents and pupils to our whole school production, The Return, taking place after school Tuesday to Thursday next week. Pupils from Years 7 to Year 12 have come together throughout the Autumn Term to design the fantastic poster, the set, stage manage the show and, of course, learnt character and acting skills to bring the work to life. It is a fantastic production and they have worked really hard so I hope to see many of you attending next week to support the show. Our Sixth Form Arts Students will be heading to Cornwall on Tuesday for their residential trip. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to engage with the rich artistic heritage of St Ives and immerse themselves in a dramatic landscape to inspire their creativity. We hope this collaborative experience builds their confidence and they come back with new ideas for their portfolios and coursework. A reminder that on Monday 25 November, the school is closed to students due to a staff training day.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Thank you to those parents who attended the Breck Foundation webinar on Monday evening. If you were unable to attend, there is a recording of the event available via this link. The passcode is %jS6cZ6! Looking forward to next week, we will be starting our annual focus on the UN’s global campaign 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Violence. This global campaign runs every year from the 25th November (Inter- national Day to End Violence Against Women) till the 10th December (Human Rights Day). It aims to highlight the high incidence of violence aimed at women and girls and to encourage everyone to take some responsibility for stopping it. Part of this is the White Ribbon Campaign, which encourages men to make a pledge never to commit, excuse, or keep silent about violence against women. You can find out more about the campaigns via these links UN 16 Days of Activism and White Ribbon Campaign. If you or your child have been affected by any of these concerns, please see a list of available support.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13

This week Year 13 have been busy doing their mock exams. It has been pleasing to see them getting used to arriving in a timely fashion, lining up well and working under exam conditions. All of this will ease exam anxiety for the real exams next year. Students and parents are reminded these are practice exams to allow teachers and students to see what is working well and what skills and content may need improving. If any students have any concerns or questions, especially when they receive their results and feedback, they are encouraged to speak to their subject teachers or the Year 13 team. It was great to see some Year 13 students stay behind for a talk by one of our Waldegrave parents, Jim Pickard, Deputy Political Editor at The Financial Times. Jim gave a very interesting talk about his journalistic career covering current affairs in politics. He spoke enthusiastically about his career and how media coverage has influenced voting behaviour and the outcomes of elections. He also discussed how social media is impacting politics and elections, and the dangers and opportunities it presents. It was fascinating to hear his first hand account of life behind the scenes at Westminster. Next week we look forward to welcoming all Year 13 students back into their lessons on Tuesday as normal and taking part in their lessons again. Don’t forget, on Monday 25 November the school is closed to students due to staff training.

MS SILLWOOD, HEAD OF YEAR 13

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘You don’t understand me’ - Dr Tara Porter A relevant, poignant non-fiction book catalysing the understanding of young women’s experiences in adolescence and leading towards adulthood. Dr Tara Porter utilises her 27 years of experience as a therapist and psychologist to pinpoint the ‘why’ to our actions regarding friendships, education, love, body image etc. Using real life scenarios mixed with scientific knowledge, readers can develop more comfort in themselves and have a better perception of others over the 10 topics discussed. This is a must read for not only members of our school navigating teenage life, but also the parents of these students who strive to support their child/ren the best they can. I haven’t stopped mentioning this book since I read it!

MS O’BRIEN, HEAD OF PERFORMING ARTS & MUSIC WALDEGRAVE RECRUITMENT We are currently recruiting for Exam Invigilators to assist with the conduct and supervision of the School’s public examinations. SCHOOL PRODUCTION We are delighted to invite parents and pupils to our whole school production THE RETURN on 26, 27 and 28 November in The Studio Theatre. Last week our Year 7/8 football team demonstrated an excellent performance, beating Hampton High 6-0. This win means they have qualified for the Borough Final against Grey Court. Good luck to the team! Despite playing away this week, our Year 10/11 Netball team played a fantastic match on Monday. Great goals from Aggie D and Anya S and brilliant interceptions from Alex A. A great team performance! Our Year 8/9 Basketball Team won their first league match against Sr Richard Reynolds this week with an impressive score of 38 goals to 12. It was a great team performance with some very impressive attacking and defensive play.
