TIME WARP Noah MK Year 5
convinced him to come with her to check it out. Together they sneakily snuck up the stairs.
Water was filling up fast. Clarc was gone, and there was a riddle to solve. That’s when Alice remembered what the Obsecuresmith said. “You have an attitude, I want to teach you a lesson.” That’s when it struck her- The Obscuresmith was teaching them a lesson on manners. “The answers manners because all this time the Obscuresmith was putting our needs for kindness first, just like the riddle says. I put others first!” Alice screamed with her last breath. Water vanished with the magic of the Obscuresmith and Alice caught sight of Clarc. Clarc was laying still as a statue.
indignantly, “and yes, it is, but you do realise there’s a giant rainbow sign on the top of your head that says so. Clearly that is it.”
“I don’t know” Clarc panicked. Drip drip. The room was leaking, leaking fast.
Crack. One of the stairs broke into pieces. “Just old age.” Clarc tried to be humorous. Alice gave a sigh. “It’s getting louder. We must hurry.” So, Clarc and Alice ran all the way to Wonderland, but when they got there nothing or no one was there except a strange figure like the Obscuresmith.
The click of my boots on the dock fills the air with the seawater slapping the rocks. I grabbed my pocket watch and read the time. 7:10 pm. Five more minutes to go. I was very jaunty for the trek to Australia, the home of the finest bookshop in the world. It was my first time on a boat.
“Dear me! You have an attitude. But call me the Obscuresmith.”
“We have to solve the challenge before we drown.” Clarc yelled.
“Hehe, that’s a funny name.” Alice giggled.
“Look Clarc, someone’s writing a message.” It read: ‘I’m about how you act, not just what you say. I put others first in a gentle way. I’m not a quick fix but the journey is a must, what am I?’
“Well, that’s not a very nice thing to say Alice.” Pa scolded.
“Well hello there Alice, and who do we have here?” “Clarc. Clarc Stern.”
“Noah, you qualified?” “Yes Gab, I’m qualified.”
“I hope she gets punished. But how...? Good Day,” replied the Obscuresmith. It was the Book Arcade’s closing time, the Sterns were getting ready for tea when Clarc asked an unusual question.
Clarc gasped. “It’s a riddle.”
“Well, I’m the Obscuresmith.”
My sister anathematized being labelled ‘Gab’. She was comparable to a phantom at midnight. The steamboat was whimsical. The warmth of the fire felt comparable to a warm hug. The steamboats deep, barren but auspicious rooms would be best for the jaunt ahead.
“Wake up. Please!” Alice pleaded. “Please save him Obscuresmith.”
Bubble bubble. Alice could hear gurgling as Clarc spoke through rising water.
Alice gasped. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I thought the Arcade was open to everyone. Isn’t it? Anyway, I’m here because I think you need to learn some lifelong manners because of this morning, Alice,” started the Obscuresmith.
“You learnt your lesson because of that I will wake up your brother.” So, the Obscuresmith used his coat and his hands to cast a spell. The spell whistled through the air hitting Clarc in the heart and with the gasp of air, Clarc awakened.
“Who was that at the door earlier today?”
‘‘The answer mustn’t be that hard!” Clarc exclaimed. “Maybe it’s something like your voice or something you do.”
“He called himself the Obscuresmith.” Alice answered. “Was he nice?” Clarc questioned.
“You ready ‘fink’ of Kids?” the sailor said, his face as intense as sleet.
“Alice you’re wrong!”
“Let’s get out of here Alice!” Clarc screamed.
“Not at all! But we might have gotten off to a rough start, like a person with a bull. I don’t think he likes me at all.” Alice sobbed.
“Clarc, you’re alive!” Alice screamed. “Thank you Mr. Obscuresmith for saving his life.”
Bubble Bubble. “Every time you get it wrong the water fills in quicker. It must be behaviour because it’s how you act and you must have had it.” Clarc yelled nervously. Splash! Water was breaking through the walls. Their lives were flashing before their eyes. Sploush! Clarc got covered in the waves of water drowning him. The last words Alice heard from him were muttered but Alice could make out some of it- “solve the riddle.”
“Hi Gab!!” our Dad said while scruffing up my sister’s hair.
Bang! The door slammed surprisingly shut.
“Not so fast you two, I said I wanted to teach you a lesson. I’m going to give you a challenge. If you succeed, you’ll be free, if you don’t well, I’ll skip that part. I wish you guys good luck and just like that the Obscuresmith disappeared like magic. “What do we do Clarc?” Alice whimpered.
“My pleasure, Alice,” the Obscuresmith smiled.
“Come on Alice cheer up. It doesn’t matter,” comforted Pa.
“My name is Gabriel. But call me Ramona.”
“Did you solve the riddle?” Clarc stuttered.
“My name is William, Ramona.”
Later that night when Alice was trying to sleep. She couldn’t help but hear soaking, soggy drips of water coming from Wonderland. She woke up Clarc and
“Yes. Yes I did. It was manners.” Alice whispered in his ear.
“Okay Dad” Gabriel explained.
