Memorable Experiences in Year Nine
YEAR NINE
This year, the Year 9 students have been very productive, participating in NAPLAN, interschool sports like Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Soccer, and Gymnastics, as well as an exciting City Experience in the last week of Term 3. During City Experience, from Monday to Thursday, we enjoyed activities such as ice-skating, rock climbing at Fortress, and visits to places like the MCG, Sexual Health Victoria, the State Library, Old Melbourne Gaol, and the Big Issue. It was a fun and memorable time exploring the city in small groups, trying new activities, and finishing the week with electives that included more visits to the MCG, ice skating, rock climbing, and gaming at Fortress. Interschool sports have been thrilling and enjoyable for all who participated, and our NAPLAN results were positive. Highlights so far include the teachers vs. students Basketball game, which was great to watch, and of course, the City Experience itself, which gave us a chance to explore a new environment and bond with our classmates. - Kiara W & Kris T
TERM 1 In Term 1, students began their new subjects for the year and settled into their school routines. They participated in the House Athletics Carnival, demonstrating enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship across a range of track and field events. The carnival provided opportunities for students to challenge themselves, support their peers, and contribute to the spirit of their House. TERM 2 During Term 2, our Peer Mediators played an important role in assisting with the Year 7 Camp to Phillip Island, supporting younger students and helping the camp run smoothly. The Year 9 cohort also enjoyed Winter Woollies Day, a fun and festive event that encouraged school spirit and creativity. Both activities fostered leadership, teamwork, and engagement beyond the classroom. TERM 3 Term 3 featured a variety of academic and extracurricular experiences. On Friday, 22nd August, Years 9 and 10 students proudly represented the school at the Inter- School Basketball Tournament at Diamond Valley Basketball Stadium. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and commitment, embodying the school values on and off the court.
Additionally, students participated in City Experience Week, travelling into Melbourne for a range of educational and cultural activities. They visited the Big Issue, State Library, Old Melbourne Gaol, MCG, and Fortress, and enjoyed experiences such as ice skating and rock climbing. The week provided opportunities to explore the city, develop independence, and engage with diverse learning experiences. TERM 4 In Term 4, Year 9 students focused on preparing for exams and transition activities during Step Up Week, consolidating their learning and reflecting on the year. The term concluded with an exciting Amazing Race in the city, providing a fun and engaging way to celebrate the end of the year while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. It was a memorable end to a busy and rewarding year.
