Inspire 2025

Learning from Science to the Stage

YEAR TEN

This year has been a busy and exciting one for the Year 10s! Earlier in the year, many students took part in interschool sports, showing great teamwork and school spirit across a range of competitions. In May, Year 10 Drama students went on an excursion to see the hit musical Beetlejuice in Melbourne, gaining inspiration from the live performance. Later in the year, students attended a budgeting talk run by the Salvation Army, learning valuable lessons about managing money and preparing for the future. To finish off Term 3, everyone took part in Work Experience Week, exploring different careers and getting a real taste of working life, a perfect way to end a year full of learning and new experiences. - Mihail D & Lucas K

TERM 1 In Term 1, Year 10 students explored exciting scientific concepts through hands-on experiments. In Chemistry, they conducted a flame test investigation, burning different metal salts to observe how each element emits a unique colour. This activity helped students understand how scientists identify elements in distant stars using emission spectra. In Psychology, students studied the nervous system, constructing models of neurons and exploring how these specialised cells work together to control movement, thoughts, and reflexes. Activities included mapping pathways, testing reaction times, and building lolly neuron models, providing engaging ways to deepen their understanding of the human body. TERM 2 Term 2 offered a mix of creative and practical learning experiences. Year 10/11 Drama students travelled into the city to see Beetlejuice the Musical at the Regent Theatre, inspiring them to analyse performance techniques and theatrical elements. Meanwhile, Food Studies students designed and prepared their own nutritious meal boxes as part of CAT 2. They applied the design process to meet the needs of a specific target audience, creating meals that were practical, visually appealing, safe, and nutrient- rich. These activities allowed students to demonstrate creativity, problem-solving, and growing confidence in both the kitchen and the classroom.

TERM 3 In Term 3, students participated in the whole school production of Freaky Friday, contributing in a variety of roles including performing, backstage support, band, and set creation. The production provided opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and leadership, allowing students to develop confidence and teamwork skills while bringing the show to life. Involvement in such a large-scale event enabled students to apply their talents in multiple areas and celebrate the culmination of collective effort and dedication. TERM 4 Term 4 focused on preparation and reflection as students looked toward the future. Year 10 students engaged in work experience placements, participated in excursions, and took part in end-of-year events, consolidating their learning and building new skills. They also prepared for the transition into VCE, completing final projects and assessments while reflecting on their achievements throughout the year. The term concluded with a sense of accomplishment, celebration, and readiness for the challenges of the next stage of their education.
