The Year Eleven Journey

YEAR ELEVEN

Year 11 has been a year of growth, learning, and memorable experiences. We settled into new subjects and routines, kicked off with the House Athletics Carnival, and explored diverse topics like Psychology, Mathematicss, and Food Studies. Term 2 featured the inspiring Performing Arts Showcase: Hall of Fame and active participation in interschool sports such as Volleyball, Athletics, and Soccer. Term 4 wrapped up with the Women in Music Showcase, finalising Unit 1/2 classes and preparing for our final year of VCE. Overall, Year 11 has been challenging yet rewarding, helping us build leadership, friendships, and skills for Year 12.

TERM 1 In Term 1, Year 11 Psychology students extended their classroom learning by conducting interactive experiments with Primary students. They explored Piaget’s theory of conservation, observing how children develop an understanding of number, mass, and volume over time. This hands-on experience deepened their knowledge of cognitive development and allowed them to see psychological concepts in action. Meanwhile, Year 11 Drama students visited the city for research and inspiration, attending a showcase of top Year 12 Drama solos after gathering background information at the State Library. This trip sparked new ideas and set a high standard for their own upcoming creative projects. TERM 2 During Term 2, the Year 11 Drama students attended Beetlejuice the Musical at the Regent Theatre, a professional production that brought theatrical concepts to life. Experiencing the show firsthand enhanced their understanding of character development, staging, and storytelling techniques. This real-world exposure enriched their appreciation of theatre and provided inspiration for their own ensemble performances, helping to bridge the gap between theory and practice in a memorable way. TERM 3 In Term 3, Foundation Mathematics students applied their learning through a practical activity that combined budgeting and unit conversions. After classroom lessons, they went shopping at a local supermarket within a set

budget and then prepared meals using their purchased ingredients. This real-life application helped develop their mathematical skills alongside teamwork and planning. Psychology students also engaged in hands-on experiments exploring visual perception, investigating how the brain uses depth cues to interpret the world. In addition, many Year 11 students were involved in the school’s Freaky Friday production, contributing as performers, crew, and musicians. Drama students rounded out the Term with an excursion to see the solo performance Yong at The Arts Centre Melbourne, which will inspire their own solo projects in the final Term. TERM 4 Term 4 was a time of transition and growth, as Year 11 students began their Unit 3/4 VCE classes. They faced increased academic challenges with heavier workloads and more complex content, requiring advanced study and research skills. Students focused on preparing for exams and assessments while developing critical thinking and time management strategies. Many took on leadership roles within the school, supporting peers and contributing positively to the school culture. This Term also provided an opportunity for reflection on the year’s achievements and preparation for the demands of Year 12, helping students build confidence and resilience for the final stage of their secondary education.
