Enjoying our Final Year!
YEAR TWELVE
TERM 1 Over four weeks, Year 12 PDS students were paired with Year 7 mentees, building rapport and guiding them to set ISMART goals. Using the GROWTH coaching model, they planned and facilitated sessions, monitored progress, and reflected on strategies to provide tailored support. The program concluded with students assessing goal achievement and reflecting on the process, creating opportunities for lasting positive impact. Five Year 12 students also attended an International Women’s Day Lunch at Parliament House, hosted by the Hon Lily D’Ambrosio MP, where they met the Premier of Victoria, Hon Jacinta Allan MP. This was an inspiring experience that highlighted leadership and community engagement. TERM 2 Year 12 students visited the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC), working with professional laboratory equipment such as Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Students analysed biofuel contamination, identified unknown substances, and tested the quality of pharmaceuticals, gaining practical experience that enhanced their understanding of Unit 4 Chemistry concepts.
Drama students travelled to the city to see Beetlejuice the Musical at the Regent Theatre, inspiring their creative work and prompting detailed analysis. Additionally, the Year 12 PDS class coordinated an Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of mental health, engaging the school community in a fun and meaningful activity. TERM 3 VCE Psychology students participated in a hands-on incursion with Radar the German Shepherd, exploring learning through conditioning and reinforcement. Students observed commands and problem-solving tasks, connecting theory to real-world applications. Term 3 also included fundraising events such as Daffodil Darby, a student-versus-teacher basketball challenge. The event raised over $1,100 for cancer research, combining fun, teamwork, and community spirit. TERM 4 Term 4 marked the culmination of Year 12, combining intensive exam preparation with celebrations and reflection. Students completed final assessments, practiced timed exam techniques, and prepared for external exams. At the same time, they celebrated achievements through graduation events, awards night, and school traditions. This term also involved reflecting on personal growth, preparing for post-school pathways, and embracing new responsibilities as they transitioned toward university, vocational opportunities, or gap- year plans. Term 4 was both an academic finale and a meaningful conclusion to the Year 12 journey.
Year 12 has been a memorable and rewarding year, full of opportunities to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities. We began the year settling into our studies and taking part in school-wide events such as the House Athletics Carnival, which brought together students from all year levels to compete and celebrate teamwork. Across the year, we balanced academics with engaging experiences, including participating in the school production of Freaky Friday, using the new table tennis tables, and making the most of dedicated study spaces to prepare for exams and assessments. Term 2 included the General Achievement Test (GAT), which challenged us to apply our knowledge under timed conditions and reflect on our learning strategies. Alongside formal learning, we continued to develop leadership and teamwork skills while contributing to school life, from supporting events to participating in collaborative projects. Term 4 brought a focus on final exams, completing assessments, and celebrating achievements, marking the culmination of our Year 12 journey. Overall, the year combined academic challenge, creative expression, personal growth, and school spirit, leaving us proud of our accomplishments and ready to take the next steps beyond Secondary school.
