Y10 Bulletin 22.11.24

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week Year 10 had an assembly on work experience, explaining how the placement process works. We welcomed Year 11 students who joined us to share their experiences and memories from last year, which should inspire our Year 10 to begin thinking about what they might like to do later on this year. The work experience placements are a really great opportunity for Year 10 to gain valuable experience of being in a working environment and to start thinking about their future career choices. On Wednesday the school was full of delicious smells as 12 students across Year 10 and 11 took part in the Rotary Young Chef competition. Pupils designed and cooked up a healthy two-course menu, with professional chef, Tom Rowlandson from Acena restaurant judging their efforts. Members of the Twickeham Upon Thames Rotary club and the Mayor of Richmond also tasted the results and awarded the prizes. All the students worked their socks off and should be very proud of their efforts but there can only be one winner! Kenza J,10ERU was awarded a first place trophy, Mila L, 10SPI came in second and Alishba B and Honor D, both 10STH, came joint third. We wish Kenza and Mila good luck as they will now compete at the regional stage of this competition in February. Top Epraise so far this year is 10PGU with 594 Epraise points. They are followed by 10PGO in second place with 493. In third place is 10SPI with 493. Keep up the good work! On Tuesday 17 December we are very lucky to be welcoming The Globe Players back to Waldegrave to perform ‘A Christmas Carol’ for our Year 10 students. We are currently studying this text, so it will be wonderful to see the book come to life. Parents/carers are asked to contribute £5 per student to cover the cost of this performance, this is now on Parentpay. Any pupil premium students can attend free of charge. We are delighted to invite parents and pupils to see our whole school production THE RETURN, taking place after school next week in The Studio Theatre. This is the culmination of the hard work of pupils from Years 7-12. We hope to see a large audience of parents and students attending next week supporting their peers across the school. A reminder that school is closed to students on Monday 25 November for a staff training day.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Agathas’ - Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson

A dramatic and intriguing detective thriller, The Agathas focuses on two girls; Alice Ogilvie, an amateur (but stubborn) detective and Iris Addams, a super-smart girl with plenty of trouble on her mind. They’re pulled together suddenly when one of their town’s most popular girls, Brooke Donovan, disappears one stormy night after a party- and it seems that everyone is chasing after the wrong guy. With the police being as lazy as possible and missing some real big clues, it’s time for them to spring into their first case! Really good for anyone who loves an absolutely thrilling modern mystery.

- Isabelle H, Year 11
