A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

This week we held the final mock exams for Art students over Tuesday and Wednesday and the standard of work produced was really astounding. It was evident that all the students had put in a lot of preparation and were demonstrating some incredible skills. For the rest of the year group students were back in lessons and on their usual timetables. There were two assemblies this week, one held by myself that aimed to promote the skill of work-life balance. We gave some practical tips to students on how to relieve stress and anxiety with pictures of our very own staff taking part in their favourite leisure activities. The second assembly, run by Ms Lane and members of the student parliament, covered disability awareness and some of the barriers to equality that still exist in our society. On Monday there was a KS4 netball match, see the sports fixtures section over leaf for results. Sophie JC in 11PCL represented the year group on Wednesday in the Rotary chef competition. She competed alongside some Year 10 students to design and cook up a healthy two-course menu. Professional chef Tom Rowlandson from Acena restaurant, members of the Twickenham Upon Thames Rotary club and the Mayor of Richmond came in to judge their skills. Kenza J took the top place and will be joined by fellow Year 10 student Mila L, who came in second, at the regional stage in February. On Thursday all students were offered the flu vaccine via a nasal spray which will hopefully help them dodge some of the worst winter viruses. This should keep students in school, learning and boosting their chances of top exam grades in the summer.

MRS ROOK, HEAD OF YEAR 11

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Agathas’ - Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson

A dramatic and intriguing detective thriller, The Agathas focuses on two girls; Alice Ogilvie, an amateur (but stubborn) detective and Iris Addams, a super-smart girl with plenty of trouble on her mind. They’re pulled together suddenly when one of their town’s most popular girls, Brooke Donovan, disappears one stormy night after a party- and it seems that everyone is chasing after the wrong guy. With the police being as lazy as possible and missing some real big clues, it’s time for them to spring into their first case! Really good for anyone who loves an absolutely thrilling modern mystery.
