CREW Lehigh Valley Tours Silk
Easton, PA — In late May, Mark Mulligan, CEO, of VM Development welcomed about 60 members and guests to an exclusive tour of the Silk Mill, an exciting redevelop- ment project along the banks of the Bushkill Creek. Constructed in 1883 as the Simon Silk Mill, the complex was a major textile-producer for more than 8 decades before the 15 buildings encompassing 300,000 s/f fell silent. Today Silk is a dynamic mixed-use creative community comprised of upscale apartments and boutique businesses, which integrates details of the build- ings’ industrial past for the enjoyment of 21st Century ten- ants. Thirty-three apartments are now ready for occupancy in the completed first phase of the project. Mulligan noted that the Easton Redevelopment Au- thority became involved with the project in 2006, dealing with environmental clean-up and developing a masterplan. “We started our project in 2010,” saidMulligan. “The City invested 10-milion-dollars in the site and we have invested 50 to 60 million.” Silk is one of seven major redevelopment projects under- taken by Mulligan in Easton. “What I learned in Easton, “said Mulligan, “is when you save the important buildings, it attracts others to come in and do the same. Look at the project at the big scale ----then all of the pieces of the puzzle fall in place.” The event was underwritten by the Center Valley, PA based law firm, Fitzpatrick Lentz and Bubba, LLC. n
