ABF’S EDMONTON BEERFEST
Raising a Glass in Alberta’s Capital
by Ryan Myson
dominated by a handful of established breweries, Alberta’s capital has witnessed a surge of independent producers carving out their place in the market. From industrial districts to revitalized neighbourhoods, taprooms have multiplied, each offering its own interpretation of classic styles and experimental brews. Edmonton Beerfest grew alongside this expansion. What began as a straightforward tasting event gradually transformed into a showcase of innovation and regional pride. Today, the festival features over 135 breweries from across Alberta and Canada, often alongside select international producers, distilleries, cideries, and ready- to-drink brands. It’s a curated snapshot of where beverage culture stands right now — and where it’s headed next. For many local breweries, Beerfest isn’t just an opportunity to pour samples; it’s a platform to introduce new releases, pilot projects, and seasonal creations. Limited- edition IPAs, barrel-aged stouts, tart fruit sours, crisp lagers, and hybrid styles often make their debut here, giving attendees the thrill of discovering something rare before it hits store shelves.
Industry Focused Each spring, as the last traces of winter loosen their grip on Alberta’s capital, a different kind of thaw begins inside the Edmonton Convention Centre. This is Edmonton Beerfest — one of Western Canada’s most anticipated celebrations of craft beer and beverage culture. More than just a sampling event, Edmonton Beerfest has become a reflection of the city itself: bold, welcoming, a little adventurous, and fiercely supportive of local makers. For beer enthusiasts, industry insiders, and curious newcomers alike, it offers an immersive experience where education, entertainment, and community meet under one roof.
A Festival That Mirrors a Growing Scene Edmonton’s craft beer story has evolved dramatically over the past decade. Once
