menu items. Piatti Provisions is a fun option, especially for regulars, and even comes with recipes. (We left with a bottle of dipping oil.) For entrees, pizzas range from a classic Margherita ($15) to the spicy pepperoni-laden Divola ($19). Homemade pasta dishes (most running $20 to $30) feature such staples as pesto, pomodoro and Bolognese to Piatti “classics” like its signature eggplant parmesan and lasagna. We shared the seared sea bass ($40), a flavorful potpourri that included roasted cipollini, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and olives in a zesty red sauce. Finally, the flourless chocolate torte ($9) was a perfect topper to the meal. Even locals who haven’t dined at Piatti know it from its central location off the busy 101, but situated back along the sparkling waters of the bay, it’s perhaps the most unheralded “view” restaurant in the North Bay. Newbies will be surprised. Piatti is Italian for “dishes,” a simple and modest name for a restaurant of this caliber—which is ultimately quite fitting. Piatti lets its food, service and ambiance do the talking. t
Did You Know? Instead of a “happy hour,” Piatti offers an Aperitivo Hour (weekdays 3 to 6 p.m.), which is the Italian version of the traditional early evening social time for pre- meal drinks and appetizers. The word “aperitivo” comes from the Latin word "aperire," or "to open”—as in, the "opening" of the stomach prior to the meal.
