NEWS!! RISE REHAB IS NOW EMPOWER PHYSICAL THERAPY

Rise Rehab is proud to announce that we have joined forces with 4 other like- minded physical therapy clinics around the valley to ensure that more people are able to get the same great care we have always provided! We now have 22 locations around the Phoenix-Metro area, which will give us the opportunity to do Physical Therapy the way we have perfected it on a much larger scale. The most exciting part about this is that we are still owned and operated by our SAME physical therapists. Again, we are still PT owned, and PT operated!! What happened to the original owners? They are still here, and are owners. We do have a new CEO, Steve DiPaola, he is a veteran practicing Physical Therapist who is beyond excited to lead us in our continued journey of changing people’s lives. We were not in a position of needing to merge, however, we believed that our similar companies are stronger as one. Rise Friends and Family, We have REALLY exciting news! HOW TO APPROACH A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

Focus on Process, Not Results. Don’t focus on a result, with no identification of a process for how to get there. Intensely focusing on results paradoxically makes us less likely to achieve them. Instead of focusing on “losing 10 pounds,” try focusing on going for walks or eating healthy salads for lunch — you will probably end up losing some weight in the process. And you’ll probably enjoy the journey a lot more. The focus of our resolution should be the process — the infinite present moments in which transformation will occur — rather than the single instance of its attainment.

Consider Resolution Alternatives. If thepressure of New Year’s Resolutions is too much, consider a few alternative ways to set your intentions for the upcoming year: Make a Vision Board: A vision board compiles images that represent what you want for yourself in the upcoming year. It’s a great way to have a visual reminder of your intentions. Choose a Word of the Year: Many people have embraced the trend of choosing a word for the year — like breathe, trust, dance, fly — that encapsulates the feelings, attitudes, and

behaviors they desire in the year ahead. This word can guide your choices and actions — instead of setting firm expectations for yourself, you can ask if a particular behavior aligns with your word and your intentions. Ultimately, New Year’s Resolutions are about growth and improvement. They are about bringing health and joy and ease into our lives. With mindfulness we can bring awareness to our habits and hold ourselves with compassion and kindness as we seek meaningful transformation.

HOLIDAY SURVIVAL

Tips To Maintain Your Diet During The Holidays Are You Struggling With Your Diet This Season? Tis the season to be jolly... but for many who have struggled with weight loss the holidays can put a damper on the most wonderful time of the year. Surrounded by traditional favorites, baked breads, rich desserts and decadent cocktails, one can almost visualize the numbers on the scale heading in the wrong direction. Fear not and RSVP yes to your festive engagements by arming yourself with these helpful tips:

• Eat before you go. As silly, as this may sound, the best way to arrive at your function and be able to pass on high calorie and high fat hors d’oeuvres is to not be plagued with hunger pangs. In addition, you will be able to make healthier food choices placing more emphasis on salads, protein and vegetables. • Avoid high sugar spirits like daiquiris, coladas and margaritas. With just two of these types of cocktails, you could consume half of your days’ worth of calories. Instead, choose light beer, red wines like pinot noir or chianti, white wines like pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc or mixed vodka club drinks with a splash of juice. Since alcohol dehydrates the body which can lead to extra snacking, be sure to drink plenty of water in between. • You can’t have your fruitcake and eat it too. Holiday desserts can be rich in sugar , fat and calories which can really pack

on the pounds, especially if coupled with a high carbohydrate dinner. Try chewing on gum or sipping on a flavored herb tea to help squelch the desire to sample a little bit of everything. But if you must indulge, choose a reasonable portion of one of your favorites or two half portion sized desserts. exercise. Exercising an hour a day, or 30 minutes at high intensity, 5 times a week will help keep your clothes fitting nicely. • 80/20 rule. Stick with a low carbohydrate diet throughout the season with plenty of protein, vegetables and healthy fats. No need to add any extra rice, pasta, cereal or bread to breakfast and lunch meals. This will allow you to partake in some decadent foods a few times a week without adding the average 5-7 pounds of holiday weight gain. • Calories in, calories out. If you are going to indulge, you must
