The Expanding EvolveFit Dance by Peri Hayes

After attending her first lesson with Crystal Casimir at Flygirl Fitness, Shannon Davidson exclaims, “I surprised myself with how quickly I took to the steps.” As a result, she became a co-instructor. Shannon’s passion for dance has continued to flourish since 2017, leading her to launch the local EvolveFit Dance in March of last year. “Music,” she reveals, “Is at the heart of what I do. I always loved to sing and dance, putting on shows as a kid. I found this style of workout, which led to good results — both physically and mentally — and I share this joy with other people.” Offering classes to ages 18 and above, women are empowered at EvolveFit Dance. Shannon explains that her modifiable choreography is comparable to Zumba with enhanced creative liberty: “You have the space to move your body in a way that you enjoy, which doesn’t feel like a regimented gym-type workout!” Shannon enjoys leading her classes through an array of ambient lighting and uplifting electronic and pop music, with hip-hop and modern movement at the core of her inspiration. The business owner has participated in events in the past, notably, she brought EvolveFit Dance to CrossFit Elgin, wherein she introduced members of the gym to her service and her students were able to visit a local fitness centre. “This brought a lot of gym members the opportunity to check out what it is that I do,” she notes. This mutually beneficial and incredibly rewarding experience has been sparking ideas for EvolveFit Dance to expand into a mobile service at insured businesses. Shannon has had several local businesses inquire about hosting a pop-up class, as she is enthusiastic about

collaborating -- particularly in the fitness and wellness industry. She continues, “It’s been nice to have people reach out in that realm and gauge their interest in seeing what it is that we do.” Operating year-round at the St. Thomas Seniors’ Recreation Centre, Shannon meets with her students on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. The drop-in rate for a single class costs $10.00, with their Package of four sessions being $35.00. Pre-registration is not required. Furthermore, Shannon continues to instruct alongside Crystal on Mondays at 7:00 pm throughout the summer season. Crystal and Shannon have been exploring the possibility of pop-up classes in Pinafore Park: “There are options of areas to go dance, so we’re hoping to host a couple of those over the summertime!” Shannon concludes by inviting local businesses considering collaboration with EvolveFit Dance to reach out, expressing, “That would be really great!” Connect with Shannon through Facebook and Instagram at “evolvefitdance” with inquiries.
