of how this helps students mature.” As a previous exchange student in Stockholm, Sweden, Sue declares, “I’m paying back what somebody did for me.” This program is outlined as a scholarship worth $20,000.00. Students, however, will pay a single fee of $8,500.00, which entails their training and airfare. Insurance is provided, and the Rotary Youth Exchange Program collaborates closely with the school system as a means for the children to avoid full cost. “We describe this as a cultural year, not an academic year,” Sue illuminates. Their incredibly supportive District is 6330, and they strive to facilitate plenty of preparation and training for students in advance, which includes learning the language, stress management and more. Sue conveys, “We are looking for students who are coachable and care about other people, because that’s what Rotary is all about service above self.” Students are invited to list their top ten choices of 30 countries on a global scale, and the organization aims to place them in one of their top three. Sue enthusiastically voices, “We are ready to receive applications.
