Our approach goes beyond just legal solutions: clients trust us to advise on what’s possible, what’s prudent and what’s coming around the corner. Types of work Our multi-disciplinary team delivers a broad range of specialist legal services, and particularly stands out for its expertise across sectors including: banking and financial services, education, energy, family business, healthcare, investment funds, Islamic finance, manufacturing, real estate and social housing. Who should apply We look for bright trainees who want to fulfil their ambition with us. You’ll need a strong academic background: a 2.1 or above in any degree subject. We expect you to share our enthusiasm for our business and our clients. Show us what sets you apart. You’ll be a great candidate to us if you can show you have an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy finding new ways to get things done. We accept both law and non-law graduates. Law students can apply at any time from the penultimate year of your degree, giving you time to complete your Legal Practice Course (LPC) before joining us. Non-law students should apply any time from the final year of your degree, giving you time to complete your Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and then your LPC before joining us. Training programme Our in-depth training is set in the real world, with genuine caseloads, early responsibility and access to clients. This is first- class, hands on training you can trust to develop your career. As a trainee you’ll spend two years experiencing at least three areas of the law. This will involve having four six-month stints, called seats, in our various practice areas. You will also benefit from the Professional Skills Course, which we supplement with a structured programme from our training academy to strengthen your skillset. Over the course of two years, you will have exposure to the legal and commercial issues faced by our clients, and work with colleagues as part of the team that delivers the solutions. Trainees also receive regular support through our buddy and mentoring schemes. When and how to apply Apply via our online application form at www.shma.co.uk by 30 June 2020. We offer training contracts in three locations: East Midlands (with stints in our Leicester and Nottingham offices), West Midlands (with stints in our Birmingham, Solihull and Stratford upon Avon offices) and London.
