The firm Walker Morris LLP are a large, commercial practice based in Leeds. We are a well respected law firm and one of the highest recruiters of trainee solicitors in Leeds with fantastic retention rates. Our flagship office move in Summer 2019 was the largest professional services relocation in the city for almost 15 years. Our new building has undergone a comprehensive £10 million refurbishment which has provided us with a premium working environment. We have grade A office space at the heart of the Leeds business district. All 500 of our employees are together under one roof, underlining our position as the largest single site law firm outside London. As part of the move we have made multimillion pound investments in our IT systems to allow our employees to work more effectively and collaboratively. Types of work Company commercial; corporate; intellectual property and trademarks; energy, infrastructure and government; projects; renewables and energy; corporate tax; commercial real estate; planning and environmental; CDR; insolvency; sports; employment; construction; regulatory services. We offer a full range of services to commercial clients, both nationally and internationally. Who should apply Second-year law students and final-year non-law students with excellent A-level grades and ideally a 2.1 degree. Applications are also welcome from candidates who are currently on or have completed the GDL/ LPC. We are looking for bright, commercially minded and practical individuals who can get on with clients and team members. They must show a sense of humour and fun when the pressure is on and adopt a commonsense approach to clients’ problems. Training programme Our two-year training programme incorporates six four-month seats with the opportunity to choose your seats in the second year. Trainees are allocated a supervisor which is a partner, director or senior associate they receive a formal appraisal at the end of each seat. We provide a structured induction programme in your first week. The Professional Skills Course is provided and IT training/workshops are also given. Formal training including lectures, workshops, seminars, and skills programmes. There is also potential for secondments outside the firm. Work placements We offer a one-week structured vacation scheme. Schemes take place in April and June, with 48 places available. Sponsorship We will pay LPC and GDL fees plus £5,000 maintenance fees to students who we have offered a training contract.
